I am new to sorcory in its entirety almost, I am basically starting into it with the expressed purpose of being able to enchant items for myself and others to either increase their luck or help them keep themselves together in tough times (personal strength I guess you could say) I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for anyone in my position that might help them get off on the right foot, aside from read around and try and get a feel for it, mainly due to two reasons, one that is probably how they found this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yes2.gif) , and two it seems to be common sense that in order to learn you must first seek knowledge. I have looked at the post in this sorcery forum Zen And The Art Of Sorcery. and find it has decent relevence to this however I am still considering that there are always other means to this end. help is appreciated, This doesn't qualify as spell begging does it? cause I am trying to avoid that if it is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush2.gif)

Hello, I'm the author of that post, and since no one else seems to have taken an interest, I thought I'd give my two cents.

That thread was intended as a guide towards the inner mechanics of the energetics behind magickal undertakings. It was written some time ago and I have a little bit more of an understanding about the composition of energy and how we interact with it than I did at the time - always we are learning more if we are seeking.

First of all, there are some basic skills that are really essential to enchanting items that constitute essentially the basic magickal skills that all magick requires. So, it'll be difficult and slow to learn specifically just about enchanting items, without developing in the basic areas before-hand. Not at all impossible, but your development would be decidedly one sided and that may, ultimately, impede you. The strength of one's magick is not about magickal skill per say, so much as magickal maturity. The psyche must acclimate to new concepts and learn how to process information and apply reason and willpower in new ways.

That said, the simplest way I know to enchant an item is to hold the item in the right hand, with the left hand underneath it - I'll explain the reasoning and mechanics after this - and spent a good amount of time meditating on the quality you want to confer. The person the item is intended for, or the specifics of the effect you want (i.e., a lucky ring to provide luck in picking the right scratch off ticket) should not be a part of this meditation, as this complicates the nature of the energy coming to mind. You should single out the quality, and explore the energy of that quality intensely while holding this item.

After a good amount of time, when you feel that you are totally immersed in the feeling of this quality, you must imagine that it exists in the air around you, filling up the space that you are working in. If it is intended to be an attracting quality, then you should imagine the quality surrounding you as a fluid. If it is a creative quality, then imagine it as light and heat. If it is a communcative quality, imagine it as a light, airy substance. If it is intended to bind together, for instance you mentioned an item that would help someone keep their life together, then imagine it is a dense, earthy substance.

When you have projected this quality, in your mind - a question of awareness, not visualization - into the area around you, completely occupy your attention with this quality around you, and imagine that it fills the entire universe. Identify this quality as independent of you, acknowledge with no doubt whatsoever in your mind that this is a universal quality that exists throughout all of creation. When you have reached this state of mind, then breath in deeply, breathing into your abdomen, and imagine that you are breathing in this quality in it's elemental form - water, fire, air, or earth - and that you are a hollow vessel, filling up with this substance from the universe. Feel the energy flow in through your mouth and nose, and through your skin, as your entire being absorbs the energy into itself like a sponge. Feel a center in your body - I suggest your abdomen - as though it has gravity, that it draws the energy you are inhaling into itself like a star pulling in matter and burning brighter and brighter as it does. You must maintain its elemental quality throughout this - if it is fire, it must burn hot and bright; if it is water it must become dense, and cool;if it is airy, it must be light, but thick; if it is earthy, it must be heavy and dense, like stone. Each time you inhale, the energy must come into your vessel, and then be pulled into this center.

Do this a number of times divisible by the most auspicious number. Do some research into qabbalistic numerology. For instance, if it is three, do it 3, 6, 9, 12 times, etc. And so for the other numbers. Not more than 36 breaths for you, I think, if you are just beginning. Through this process you must be totally single minded in your pursuit. Not another thought can come into your mind. Be completely involved.

When you have acquired through this process of breathing in the quality, a very real, physical sensation of the presence of this energy gathered in your abdomen, then shift your attention to your hands, and the item there - ring, pendant, etc., though I suggest using an item made of the metal, stone, etc., which is sympathetic to the quality you are intending to confer. Inhale, and draw the energy up into your heart. As you exhale, the energy should travel out through both arms, through the hands, and into the palms, there to pass into the object. You must now imagine that the object itself has gravity similar to that which you imagined in the center in your abdomen. As you exhale, the gravity of the object must pull the energy out of your body and into itself. You must exhale in this manner, focusing on this process, the same number of times that you inhaled, and by the last breath you must feel emptied of that quality energy. If any last bit of it seems to remain, do some kind of grounding or banishing exercise.

I did say simple - it's about as simple as it gets. There are about a hundred methods to apply this or that herb, usually a ritual setting, but in my experience to date - with my own practice and examining the objects of others - those methods are practically impotent. There is a whole other school of magickal practice in making talismans, but if you are just starting out, this will probably not work very well for you.

Each of the elements confer a different mechanic to a quality, or energy. The quality itself, astrally, is composed of all elements, however, the effect will be more pronounced if only one element of the quality is applied. Your right hand holds the object while the left hand cups that hand, because the right hand is electrical in nature and will express energy from both hands upwards into the object. The Left hand positioned underneath, pulls energy into the resulting mudra. The reversed positioning is more conducive to drawing energy out of an object.

Now, the object itself must undergo some kind of purification - something you believe in completely, otherwise, there is an elemental method. Get a bowl full of dirt, and bury the object in it. A glass bowl is best. Put your hands on either side of the bowl, and imagine that they are exerting a 'pulling' sensation through the dirt and into the object, whereby all earthy impurities are drawn out of the object and into the soil. Dump the soil back into the earth, preferably where you got it from. Next, tie the object to a string, or if it isn't a small object you may simply use your own arm, and sling the object around in the air. Imagine that all airy impurities are pulled out of it by the air. If this is done outside, all the better; if inside, then light some incense afterwards for purification - pine, myrrh, sandalwood, etc. Next, get a bowl of purified water - natural water is best, if it's tap water then boil it and put it in the fridge to cool down. Add a tablespoon of salt to the cold water. Submerse the object in the water completely, and again place both hands on the sides of the bowl. Imagine that the cold water is drawing out all negative watery qualities from the object. Pour the object either into the river or spring, or simply into the ground somewhere away from your home. Not down the drain. Finally, light a white candle, and swing the object back and forth through the flame, imagining that the flame is burning away all the fiery impurities. After this give the object a cleaning - polish it, wash it, whatever, so that it is as clean as it can be. This entire process should be done at once, and you should cultivate throughout it the sense that your object is becoming sanctified, and treat it as such. It should not be laid on the ground, or left out in the open. Acquire some means of storing it until you wish to enchant it, something suitably lavish if you are a visually oriented person, something sacred if you are religious, etc. - an appropriate storage place for a sacred object. Wrap it in silk and stow it away in your altar if you have one, or in a jewelry box specifically for magickal objects. This should no longer be a regular peice of jewelry, etc., but a sacred object that you must respect as holy.

To test the effectiveness of your object, allow someone to wear it who is not aware of the quality it is intended to confer. After thirty minutes or so, question them about their feelings, thoughts, ask them about some subject related to that quality, to discern if there has been an effect on their psyche. It should be obvious, and you should be objective about analyzing their answers on the matter. If there has been no change, repeat the process. The effectiveness, as I said, is not about the process itself, but one's magickal maturity. It may take several tries - but no amount of ritual, meditation, etc., is going to be any faster than doing it yourself if you don't possess the maturity to make it happen.

You could look into folk magick, but that is based on cultural beliefs. If your own culture has such traditions, explore them and get connected to your roots. Evocation of some entities may yield their aide in the matter, but again, this is a matter of maturity. Beyond all this, there are about a dozen books on the subject that you can find and read, but in my own opinion, the only thing that will enable you to do such things is to develop yourself magickally in a well rounded way. Enchanting an object becomes a matter of simple reasoning when you have developed yourself sufficiently. If you pursue the method I have given you here, you will have success - right away if you are really talented, eventually if you are like most everyone else.

You might also read up on fluid condensers but - yet again - their application relies on your ability to condense energy, the substances themselves do not inherently confer magickal energy, simply lubricate the process. You might look into psionics as well - textbook psionics, not the stuff from psipog.net. But, I have never made effective use of psionics, and belief it to be a subjective science like sigilization, not an objective magickal formula.

peace

Thank you, I was beggining to wonder if anyone in this forum would have any ability to assist my curiosities, I am glad that there are.
I am beggining with the expressed interest in enchanting but I did not mean to implicate that I was excluding the other aspects of sorcery because I do understand that knowing many different aspects of a craft or ability is extremely important and can increase the potency of the main skill one is attempting to attain. I did take much interest in your initial post however i didn't feel this was a topic ment to add to what was there already mainly due to its one sidedness. You did allude to filling the body with the essence of an elemental nature, would it possibly help if you were exposed to that sort of element as this is done, example being, sitting surrounded by candles representing fire (or a campfire), wading in a lake or river, or even as simple as a shower, being outdoors on solid rock or with your bare feet dug into sand. Just curious but do you think this would have any effect on the mentality or potency of the user?

Good question, and I think that yes, that may help at first. I was remiss to think of it when I was writing, but coming to understand and sympathize with the elemental energies would be part of the basic elements of magickal practice.

The physical elements are analagous but not the same as the metaphysical elements. What we percieve as fire, water, air, earth, etc., are all technically manifestations of those elements within the earth element - which is the element attributed with the solidification of the material world.

So, it may help to be surrounded by candles while connecting to the fiery element, but the flames of the candles themselves are not to be confused with the element itself - the energy you draw in should not be from the candle flames, from the river, from the rocks, etc., but from the entire universe. This ensures that the energy you are drawing comes from the Akashic principle, which is where such energies should come from. Being surrounded by candles, for instance, may help you to believe in the fact that you are surrounded by an electrical, fiery principle which is really a pan-dimensional omnipotent universal Fire Element, but it is that idea that should be in your mind throughout the process, not the candles themselves. And so for the other elements.

Mmm, I'm not going to criticize or say that one must approach sorcery from one angle and no other, however, while you want to make enchantment your primary focus, it might be of benefit to consider that by developing oneself along a balanced path, giving the proper time and development to each necessary step towards mastery, that in the end you will may have a greater ability to enchant items than if you had devoted your attention primarily to the cultivation of that one skill, giving the others only their due in order to understand it better.

It seems counterintuitive, but it's really not - the ability to do magick effectively, immediately, with true power, etc., is not dependant on the amount of time you spent perfecting it exactly, but rather the depth to which you understand the laws that make magick work, the intensity with which you devote yourself to personal mastery, and the strength of your willpower - which requires a development of your total self on all fronts. In the end, you reach plateau after plateau in which you become a more capable magician over all, rather than being a mediocre sorcerer with one 'trick' as it were. But, follow your gut - you're particular interest may turn out to be a talent from a past life trying to reawaken, or a specific calling. It's simply good to give everything a thorough consideration and recognize the benefits that go beyond the immediate goal. Everything we learn has an immediate application and a more far reaching implication, lining up those two 'points' as it were, points just in the right direction to achieve real growth.

peace

I trully hadn't thought of the elements in that fassion however that does make quite a bit of sense. Thanks for the input, i'm pretty sure I'll tack another question on at some point after some focused study and reflection.

Can we enchant any part of the human body (liver , lungs....) ?
