I have used the gazing technique as well. Some times at night I will sit in a chair and stare at a spot on the wall or something. Eventuly I fall asleep in the chair and can travel freely.
Another technique I have is to stare at something that has a shadow around the edge. It's hard to explain, but I stare at like something on my desk that is being shadowed by my desk lamp and project.
I have also noticed sometimes at night when I'm reading a book, I will just stare at word or letter, and I will start projecting and fall asleep.

I'm driving along and I notice that I'm not in my body! I was still driving buy I was just sitting about 18" up and to the left of my left shoulder. I was still in the car and driving but I must have been half asleep or still projected or something. Any way I get to school race inside, I just got there on time, sat down and everything was fine the rest of the day.
