The runes have been a major part of my path since it officially begun in my mid teens.
So i thought i'd share a little documented but very insightful aspect to their influence.
It became apparent to me that the ordering of the runes in old English words reflected their meaning very well. since basic English hasn't changed a great deal over the century's a large chunk of the words we use today are still interpretable through their runic spelling. I find that they are best interpreted back to front.
Spell for example; L -Water, fluid, emotion. E - Medium of transport, horse, vehicle, movement. P - Hidden mechanisms, random occurrence, secret. S - Success, lightening, illumination, happen.
Like some weird fluidly stuff moves the hidden mechanisims an makes something happen.
Well for example;
L - Water, fluid, emotion. E - Medium of transport, horse, vehicle, movement. W - Joy, happiness, values reached.
And for example;
D - daylight, revolving states of enlightenment, revelation N - Necessary events, events beyond immediate scope of control, pain, warning. A - New beginnings, acorns.
another revelation of events begun
Sound for example;
D - daylight, revolving states of enlightenment, revelation N - Necessary events, events beyond immediate scope of control, pain, warning. O - Words, oral traditions, god S - Success, lightening, illumination, happen.
a revealing event (possibly a warning) that causes a thing like a man talking that illuminates whats happening
Better for example;
R - Journeying, communicating, going someware to do something an coming back. E - Medium of transport, horse, vehicle, movement. T - Truth, righteousness, sacrifice for good, accuracy, binding/fighting of evils. E - Medium of transport, horse, vehicle, movement. B - accelerated growth, nurturing, health, birch tree.
A journey done, things moved on, negativity negated and more movement into a state of growth an well being
I've just picked those words fairly randomly and I've spelled them phonetically, i suspect double letter's might mean something special but I've not looked into it so i sized them down. but as you can see the first letters seem to dictate the over all meaning while the ones that come after shape the context it's in.
The rune's were the only alphabet used in Britain for a very long time during a period when the majority of the English language was developed so i suspect that word's were 'invented' with their runic meanings in mind so that the carvings of unfamiliar words could still be interpreted.
It's a shame so much was lost when we have gained so much from what remained. Naturally I use it for naming stuff. I hope this will prove useful to you all as much it dose to me.
