So I learned a really basic meditation, simple and to the point. What I do to modify it is call on Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Spirit, Light and Dark before I go into my meditation and then I start. While I'm meditating I envision their energies flowing through me, entering my body below and emerging from the top enriched with my own energy. I open my mind and listen to what the elements tell me, and sometimes speak back. We discuss problems (which the elements sometimes dissolve into complete turmoil over) and solutions, wordly events (which the elements are surprisingly in tune with) and I listen to them speak about whatever they choose. I also occasionally ask them to bring me any happenings or messages from any other humans that they find relevant. This can be a little overwhelming as the ones they choose are generally souls crying out for help in the most tortured manner or leaping for the most ecstatic joy you can imagine (though the former is more common than the latter). Either way it's a great chance to harmonize your inner energy and put yourself in tune with nature.

That's all, good day to you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hideingbhindcurtian.gif)

It's 'cause avoiding multiplies of 5 and 2, and beginning and ending numbers, leaves you with only 7 and 3 (out of 0-9 or 1-10). 3 is a basic, mundane/religious number that is used all the time. We are left with 7, which seems random and therefore magical. Er summat.

Seven has been a sacred number for thousands of years though, earliest I know of is the ancient Egyptian, so I'm not sure if that's 100% right but whatever! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

In the bible 3 is the number used for things of heaven and 7 is the number used for things of earth.

^^ Hardly connected to that but involving it and highly interesting: Everything Is Spiritual. <<< Awesome movie. Christian based but it works for all beliefs.

I read that the Chinese reason differently: avoid the numbers at the ends and odd numbers, and pick only numbers that are exclusively multiples of 2 to eliminate 6 - leaving 4 and 8, 8 being nearer to the middle. But I'm not so sure on his reasoning (why the emphasis on multiples of 2?!)...

Forgive my apparent ignorance, but...how do 3 of the planets count as elements, after listing the 7 planets separately already? If we go by the IIH, the 7 elements are The Vital Force, Fire, Air, Water, Earth, The Electric Fluid and The Magnetic Fluid--with Akasha not being so much a specific element as the force that binds the 4 primary elements together and exists within the core essence of the other three and everything else for that matter.

Could you clarify please? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sweatdrop.gif)

Okay, may I suggest making a post under esoteric discussions about sevens? I appreciate your knowledge and input, but this is totally irrelevant to my post.

Does anyone think that meditation in the nude could effect anything? Just a theory, but I imagine it would be at least slightly empowering to concentrate without any kind of physical confines.

meditating in the nude, eh? - i see nothing wrong with it, though nothing beneficial to me either, but the important thing is what it does for you - as long as you can maintain concentration and focus and being nude doesn't throw you off or whatever - hmmmm....whitley strieber (www.unknowncountry.com) calls the body's skin 'the largest organ, one responsible for psychic functions, etc - interesting - he has some meditations that all begin with sensing the body, i.e., sensing with the skin - i shun the physical world, so therefore i would never 'tune into' my physical skin, instead looking through the eyes of the eternal soul...
