Greetings

Has anyone ever built a mental temple and conducted magick from it?

A while back I made a mandala that symbolically represents my understanding of magick, and soon realized that its a perfect floor plan for a mental temple. This got me wondering if I can do magick within it using my mental body, while physically I might be laying in my bed, preferably in a trance. Can magick be effective this way, even though I'm physically inactive? Also, do I visualize myself in the first or third person? This may sound like a silly question, but some hypnotherapists advise using the third person for any visualization, saying its better somehow. The only reason I've been able to find why this may be so is that when visualizing in the third person, your emotions are dissociated from what you are seeing, while in first person you may elicit stronger emotions, including the 'lust of result'.

I would appreciate any advice.

It is completely possible to do every type magick in this way. There was a person on the forums a few years back who did all his magick mentally and in dreams. It is all a mater of focus and clarity, though. Physical props are helpful because they act a place holders for energy so the mage need not bother so much with direct awareness of ever energy at play and what they are doing and relating to each other. Magick in purely mental space requires the ability to maintain awareness on every energy and what it is doing for the duration one needs them. Some people use visualized props to stand in for real ones. This makes it a little easier, but does not free one form keeping everything in awareness. If you make a thought form of the prop in the same way you would create a servitor then it will continue to persist and carryout its function even if you stop being aware of it.

The only issue I have with laying down it that one is prone to fall asleep and thus rune the work. Sitting in a chair or in some Asana which is fully supportive and comfortable is best. Third or first person is not that important. Over time the distinction between the two gives way to awareness in both perspectives at the same time. If third person gives you some mental detachment then all the better - yet I watch my students play on their smart phones and see how emotional they get over those games. The ability to be disassociated or unattached to something is a faculty that is cultivated independent of any working.

With regrades to your mandala temple, you could search for astral temples as they are effectively the same thing. The way you construct it weather it is persistent or temporary are points discussed there in.

Hi.

QUOTE

Yes, I did. And I still do.

QUOTE

Of course. "Mind is the only tool you need." As fatherjohn said, on the beginning you may fall asleep, but from my experience I can tell, that with practice you'll get used and you won't ever again. Also an advantages of doing magick this way is training of visualization and getting your mind used to mental magick. The second one is especially nice, 'cause with time of practice you'll be able to get right state of mind by just closing your eyes.

QUOTE
Also, do I visualize myself in the first or third person?

It doesn't really matter. Both are effective. Try which one way is better for you. You may even mix them. If you ever had an out of body experience, you could see that in non-physical planes you can see with 360 degrees view. Actually it is even more than 360, 'cause you can see from any direction of your aura.

Pebble in the pond.

Could it not be said that if you wish to influence the physical you would be best to work in the physical...bring heaven to earth?

I practice in both, often at the same time. I have 2 "shrines" to various entities and I have a third area which is replicated in the "real world", as a thread between the two.

I find it works quite well, especially seeing as I can see the product of my rituals differently in the other realm. It is also useful if you are using a ritual to obtain information or visualise/conceptualise something.

That's the idea. I like to think of it as using a subtler force to move a gross one. I normally always start by getting all the physical conditions I can in place then use magick to get what I could not make work happen. After that I use magick to make the results better and easier.

Do you have an astral temple? I'm not clear on what you mean, but it sounds fun. Care to elaborate for us?

I guess you could call it an astral temple, I often just refer to other planes of existence as other "realms". They exist not far from my home. (Not that distance matters..)

I have a little hidey hole, my home if you will. There, I have a shrine to two particular entities/spirits/"gods" that I work with and share my existence with. I prefer to work with a few rather than the many.
I have replicated in both places a particular table with particular objects I use in rituals, creating a thread between the two worlds.

Subtle rules the dense... suppose it all depends on what you're doing, there's been no mention of that .lol.

Agree in general but my Alchemist side holds its own Practical outlook. Variance in ideology there.
