Greetings OmNamaShivaya,

Those piercings are pretty amazing. I would think that hurts a bit.

Warning... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/offtopic.gif)

'Usually' larger peircings are a result of gradual 'guaging' of the hole previously peirced; that is, the ear is (usually) peirced by a 20 or 18 guage needle, and thence, the hole may be gradually widened by means of 'guaging'.

I know this because both my ears are peirced 3-4 different places and I have 14 guage earrings on them; sometimes it causes people to wonder how much it hurt. They do this in many African cultures, where they put whole plates in their lips - which is usually a case of many years guaging.

Hope that helps elucidate on the pain factor. If you ever decide on peircings you can ask me about that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gleam.gif) .

I hadn't watched the video prior to stating what I did. So... yes they do look painful, but I believe that they achieve trance-like states prior to the peircings. In any case, I'll still go with gradual gauging, which is usually the case with the majority of people, including African tribes.

yes you are correct, before the piercing a certain mantra and calling forth and invocation of a demi god will be shouted into both the ears of the one being pierced repeatedly.the mind thus for a moment becomes one with the divine and they achieve a trance like state.
