While reading through "Enochian World of Aleister Crowley" I came upon this phrase:

The large wax version on display at the British Museum is slightly different.
For example on the actual wax version, there are 7 crosses on each of
the 7 bars making up the main heptagram. The illustration shows only
three bars with 7 crosses the other 4 containing only 3.

Can anyone confirm this?

Subject: The British Museum

Greetings All.

The British Museum web site now includes photographs of Dee's instuments,
including the Sigil De Aemeth.

follow this link:-
http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/compass/...mpass&sea\
rch-form=graphical/search/search.html&submit-button=search
(I suggest you copy and paste)
And enter "john dee" as the search topic.

HOWEVER the silly sods are displaying it upside down!! In addition to this
the museum is displaying it side-ways!!!! (top is left as you look at it)
Well at least it is back on display.

I am trying to find an email address for somone in the museum who may be
able to correct these faults, but no luck so far .

Andy

Hey thanks for that! I tried enhancing the picture but pretty much all I can make out is that there are at least five crosses (propably seven) on the bar saying "Dmal" and only two on the bar saying "Heeoa".

I'm pretty certain that there are seven crosses on the "Stimcul" bar too.

Yay, I got mine done! I went for 7 crosses on every bar except on the Heeoa bar since that how it looks to me looking from the picture.

For those who are intimidated by the amount of work making the Sigillum seems to demand, it's not really that much.

What it took to make mine:

A christmas cookie tin ($10)
A hobby knife ($5)
Purified beeswax ($50, can be bought online from stores that sell candle making supplies)
Around 2-3 hrs to melt the beeswax in the oven (80-100 C, 175-200 F), let it cool overnight
Around 2 hrs to make the Sigillum

I did the Sigillum by printing out a 9" diameter copy of it and placed it on top of the beeswax plate. I then carved
the Sigillum out by cutting through the copy one part at a time starting from the edges moving towards the center.

Surprisingly easy and painless.

now get some plaster of paris, mix up a batch and take a cast of the wax sigil, then the next time you need a wax disk you just melt and pour

the main reason they use wax? - some folks say its because if they were caught they would just throw it in the fire, but i've tried carving other things and they didn't go so well - jeweller's wax is perfect for carving as that's what its made for

That is wonderful,i always wanted to see the instruments which Dee and kelly used, thanks alot for this wonderful bits of history.
The wax is used probably because its made from organic matter, providing that is made from bees wax.

Good job
