Do you wear a black or white robe during your magical workings?

Greetings benrachor,

I have found Traditionally that when someone is a member of a Magickal Order the Color of the Robe depends on the Grade the Initiate has reached within the Order.

For instance; The Outer Order of the Golden Dawn wears a Black Tau Robe, while the Inner Order ofthe Golden Dawn, or more correctly the R.R. et A.C. wears a White Robe.

Then of course you have the Robes of the Officers, being Colors significant unto their Station.

Respectfully,
Helel (Joseph)

I wear a black cloak with a hood dureing all my workings. I found it at Arms Of Valour (made by musem replicas, however). Most of the time, the hood is down, but i put it up depending on wether im inside-outside or what im doing.

No details please!

*covers eyes*

Actually happened to me at a group working, had just joined and was asked to wear all white, didn't have any trousers and so they gave me a robe, like they used to wear in egypt to cover my waist. Soooo glad one lady gave me a pair of tights, leggings, stockings? I'M NOT GAY! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry_pissed_off_emoticon.gif) Anyway, the robe thingy fell down and I didn't notice until a bit later, all the women were singing behind me and didn't even say. Twas lame. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Wear a pair of white trousers (bought a pair) for my rituals mainly cause I do banishings and stuff. Would like to get all the colour robes and use them for diffrent purposes, when working with diffrent dieties or elements and so on. Like Black and Gold though, all black would get a bit lame. Need that gold trim. Theres also these well cool robey thingys the muslems wear, not Dashikis but kinda similar...

(IMG:http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/content/images/2005_5535.JPG)

Not really the same, the ones I'm talking about are floor leangth, split down the middle and have like writing down the two sections. Well cool trust me. They look mystic but they're casual.

Realy depends on what I'm doing, if it is something ceremonial, then I usualy go with white robesbut generaly if it is meditation, yoga or a dedication I like to just wear shorts and draw/paint symbols or write statements on my torso that have significant meanings to what I want to happen.

Blessings.

I don't feel called to wear a robe.

Mine is White and Black

But I prefer Black to do almost every ritual with exceptions of other timely rituals in which White feels better...

I had mine sort of custom made through a nice local tailoring store, I just tell them its part of a play I'm with lols sounds funny, I put on the other designs later by myself. I still have to work on my sewing skills to one day create my own tau robe.

LOL, I wear street clothes too XD, I made this really awesome robe though. I don't have much use for it, O-o it actually looks like a some harajuku type club outfit.

I'll play with the robe a bit at first but I'll more than likely toss it once I'm at least a little proficient at evocations. Honestly, I don't see any use in it, but I'll (somewhat) play by the rules at first, hence the bathrobe.

Do not usually wear a robe myself - though I would like to get a nice sky blue silk one!

Though.. to answer an earlier question about Priests:

Black is often considered the color of an intiate.

It is an outward manifestation that they "Accept all things that come."

Since, for those who might not know, a garment is black when it absorbs all colors of light.

I was the same way. I had to drape my black cloak over me with the hood way down to focus. Now I wear what ever I want and usually pick a color connected with the occasion, especially if it is a seasonal festival. I'll dress up for initiations and other special ceremonies, otherwise I tend to have spontaneous rituals. Also, I realized it is far to dangerous to wear a robe when dealing with not so nice entities. I don't want to catch a hem or sleeve on fire while I've got Mr. or Mrs. Trouble cornered.

I don't wear a robe, just my everyday clothes. The less prep, the better; though in the beginning, I needed and wanted a certain formality, so I had a "sacred jumpsuit", LOL!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I also had a "Sacred T-Shirt", lol! Hell, I still came to know that I'm sacred, lol!

Occasionally I might go sky clad during the summer (though I havn't done so since the summer before last). It feels gooooood, lol!

Bathrobe? Are you doing rituals in the bathroom? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

I'm joking and serious. Some of the most powerful spells I've done where while I was totally relaxed in a big tube with massage jets. Ahh ... let the mind go and the power flow. It is also a good place to stimulate the mind into thinking about the water element or water realm.

Before going to an interview or important meeting the bathroom is my temple and I take the time for self-empowerment.

I'm sure there are others here whose ritual garb was a towel at some point or another.

I currently do all my workings in the nude, however one of these days I plan on getting around to purchasing a black robe. I would never wear a white robe.

I am curious. Could you use a combination of colors. I was thinking more like a camouflage type of material and I saw some at one of them more expensive fabric stores. The material itself was awesome. It was a netting covered with leaves (yellow, brown, and greens) all over. The leaves were only half sewn on so its look was like a real bush because the leaves stuck out into the air halfway. You could cover your whole body with it and you might not have to cut out any eye holes because I think it would be possible to see through the netting. A strange robe it would be I guess but I thought it would be kind of cool. They had other types of camouflage material their too. Do you think this idea is a bit on the bizzare side?

I've changed up my routine as to what garb I wear. I was using a bathrobe but now I'm conducting my rituals in either the nude, in street clothes, or a t-shirt (and just a t-shirt); basically whatever I'm currently wearing at the moment, if applicable.

While I don't actually perform rituals in the bathroom, I usually mentally prepare myself in the shower as I usually perform my rituals just after taking a shower (for time management convience rather than a ritual bath), which is why I often conduct rituals in my gorgeous birthday suit. Hey if you've got it, flaunt it, right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flame.gif) [/end vanity]

QUOTE(Darkmage @ Nov 12 2006, 11:17 AM) *

Neither. For me it's everyday street clothes. Since all of them are black, I suppose I'd fit into the 'black robe' camp on a technicality, but I don't think in mind they had knit turtlenecks, Gap jeans, and knee-high boots in mind when they wrote that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Don't forget the black trenchcoat to finish it off, Dark...and maybe some wraparound shades. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/insane.gif)

Quite seriously though, in a way that could be very appropriate for doing magick, and truthfully I used to envision myself wearing something similar when I was doing retrieval work.

I assume, after all, that one of the aspects of the Great Work could definitely be considered, "freeing one's mind." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/gleam.gif)
