Recently I've been having an interesting experience with my chakras during meditation. namely, that there have been extra ones. Now, I had read about extra, or 'higher' chakras a while ago, and eventually sort of settled on the idea, by observing my own chakra system outside of the physical context, that te Sahasrara, or Crown, chakra was the beginning of the Ego, the point at which divine consciousness, kethric light, the force, etc., becomes funneled into a 'singular' being, becoming ever more refined from a pure subtle matter into the gross physical existence that we commonly experience. Well, at the time, I theorized in my own mind that if the distance from the 'Pure Gross Manifestation' point and the 'Pure Subtle Origin' point were an infinite distance apart outside of space and time (which, at that point, is synonymous with being the 'same point') then there must be a seemingly infinite number of chakras, each chakra being in reality a waypoint for the shifting of subtle energy towards either the gross or subtle side of existence, respective to the direction the energy is going. Well, I have been working with my chakras since I started meditation in earnest, when i was in my preteens somewhere. The past sort of flows together at this point so it's hard to say when, but it was before highschool. At first it caused me a bunch of problems, and then I found a teacher and some good books that set me straight, and since then it's been a fascinating journey into the nature of consciousness. Well, in the last month or so, I've been able to sense very distinctly an additional chakra above my crown. When I center my consciousness there, which I can only do for moments at a time before losing concentration, I shift into a heightened state of consciousness that defies my previous definition of expanded consciousness. I'm used to the crown being my 'peak' experience in expansion, which is in itself still something profoundly different than my normal awareness. But this eighth chakra is outside the ego all together. I don't identify as individual in the normal sense of it when I move myself there. I identify myself as, paraphrased, 'the human race'. Already I can sense a ninth chakra above the eighth, but I cannot effectively center my consciousness there. Well, I went digging around and found this site: Psychic ChildrenIt lists three higher chakras. It also has a lot of other information which makes for an interesting read, namely a particular bit about genetic mutation. Now, it wasn't until recently that I was able to accept the theory of 'extra DNA', because I couldn't find a consesus on the issue from a medical or scientific point of view. Narrow of me, granted, but if people are going to talk about matters that are disprovable, then they ought to be able to back it up with research. Well, I still have to dig up the names they list here, but some time ago I theorized to my friends that we would one day discover that HIV, Cancer, these sorts of diseases, while killing off a great many people, are in reality altering our DNA where it can be done. Lo and behold, they mention just such a sort of thing on this site.... Anyone have any supporting or disproving research they know of? I'm trying to track down as much as I can, in addition to my own method of personal research that of course no journal would ever publish. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/witch.gif) I'm in a hurry, but I'll come back, with force! peace

I'm not able to center my consciousness on the first chakra below muladhara, any ideas as to why that might be? I am able to percieve it, and you're right, I do feel magnetized to the ground! I've had that sensation before, but went to the park today with the intention of utilizing that chakra consciously. I was also unable to become aware of the two below it that you mentioned. Putting more emphasis on the developement of the higher chakras than the lower chakras, you think?
I am able, thus far, to center my consciousness on each of the seven 'traditional' chakras, and the eighth. The ninth and tenth I can get to during deep meditation, but only for moments at a time, I have to refocus and push again to get there. It was that way with my crown and 'eighth' chakra at first as well.
However, I was totally unable to center myself even for a moment on that lower chakra, or to percieve the ones below it - I can imagine them, but at this point I know the difference.
I'd be grateful for any advice regarding their purpose, I find that for my own practice it helps to have a cursory intellectual understanding through which to focus my intention and awaken new experience.

Hey all,
Follow up on my new chakra situation.
I haven't projected through any of the higher or lower chakras so far, but I have through meditation begun to work with them energetically really effectively. It's basically just building onto practices that I already had in place, but they have become somewhat more empowered by included these chakras in the routine. Just as there are archtypal associations with the higher chakras, I've come to sense personal associations with the lower ones as well.
The lowest chakra I associate with Agni, and the core of the earth. During meditation this center feels the most primordial. So I have come to calling it the Agni Chakra. It feels like liquid iron, and is more magnetic than the highest chakra, just as the core of the earth generates the earth's magnetic field.
Drawing energy up into the next chakra from there, this chakra I associate with the Mantle of the earth, the terrestrial currents that shape the surface of the earth, and the god Varuna - god of the underworld and of law (the governing forces beneath reality, thus the mantle, which is the governing principle beneath the shape of the crust). This chakra seems to constantly be pulsating and moving.
Drawing the energy up into the next lowest, this one I equate with the crust of the earth, the foundation upon which life stands. I equate it with the Gaia, because life grows on the crust, and it feels far more conscious and living than the others, which is to say it is the least primordial, and in my opinion very similar to muladhara, and is the first of the three chakras to be directly linked to the physical body.
I've been beginning at the agni chakra, drawing energy up into each chakra until I reach the highest - thirteen in total. Then spiraling the energy down in one direction, and the up in the other, establishing a three lane circuit like an extended ida/pingala/shushumna.
The effect, aside from being a stretch of awareness, is a sense of weightlessness, as though i'm suspended between two poles by a thread that has been run through me. The more I perform this meditation, the more in touch I am with the higher and lower chakras. As soon as I can center on them, I'm going to work on projecting.
I have also found that by drawing energy more casually from the opposing poles down into my heart center, I can breathe energy out into my limbs and keep myself warmer than I could when drawing from the crown and root.
more in a few days!

greetings, all
i came across something in my wanderings, don't know where it is now to lay my hand on it, and it may be nothing useful, but it dealt with the chakras and metals, and how metals (as in vitamins and minerals and dietary stuff like too much added iron in a diet) were good or bad for which, and if you had trouble working with a particular chakra, it was probably because you had too much or not enough of that chakra's particular metal - i recgnised a planetary association with the metals and their chakras by color - your posts reminded me of it and it might be something you want to look into - if i find the reference (something remembered from a passing glance?, somewhere in all this stuff?, yeah right!) i will post it - i rhink it had something to do with guru's and jujube's (the fruit, not the candy)

It's interesting you mention that now, Esoterica, I was recently looking into homeopathic medicine in relationship to minerals and metals - in a book titled, "The Field" the author discusses some incredibly interesting findings that have taken place over about the last fifty years or so, which explain the mechanism behind how homeopathic medicine works, and why the greater the dilution the stronger the medicine.
Well, at the moment i'm looking up the papers and credentials of the scientists she cites, but so far it looks very compelling. I guess i'll have to finish that physics degree to get into experimentation myself, but in any case I have also been looking into this site, crucible.org, where they sell various 'elixirs' which I originally just put off as another snake oil hoax...
However, if water does hold the subtle properties - i.e., the vibrations, subtle light, sonic frequencies, etc. - of the molecules which are immersed in it (which is what these experiments appear to 'prove') and if it is also true that only the frequency of a molecule is necessary to influence other molecules (also apparently shown), then it makes sense that a homeopathic 'elixir' of particular stones or metals might indeed have some kind of effect on the energy system, above and beyond the effects that that metal or stone would have on it's own.
The magickal properties of stones and metals are no secret to most of those on this forum, probably, and the alchemical texts speak of extracting the 'pure' from the 'gross' in regard to metals and elements, and it seems that the 'pure' element within any substance would be the subtle element itself, i.e. the vibrational frequency, rather than the physical substance itself.
So, I'm inclined to give the idea a little more thought, and indeed there are various metals associated with the chakras. Since I happen to have the disposable capital, I'm in the process of experimenting with this homeopathic theory of metals and minerals, and will reveal my results when there are any - or the lack thereof, for that matter.
