banishing a ghost?, How to rid a house of a ghost? Options

Friend has moved into an old house that has a disturbing spirit... would the Lesser Banishing ritual expell the ghost? Any other recommendation.

Well I don't know about exorcising ghosts, but I can tell you the BRP, or BRH won't do it. It's for banishing unwanted spirits from your ritual space, well, generaly. Unless you tend to use a sword that's a few feet long and walk around the entire house ;-). No, I'm kidding, but I don't think the banishing rituals can help.

Well, I doubt that's going to work...You can try finding an experienced magician to conjure the spirit up, see why it's so P@#$%^ Off...Or, you can try something my family does, everytime someone dies in our family, we place A bowl of water with salt, and slices of garlic in it...Supposably the garlic, and salt purifies the room, makes sure no nasties are around.

It would depend a lot on how good the person doing the LBRP is at it and how strong the ghost is. I recommend salt water, it works WAY better. I have banished ghosts with the LBRP before, not the really strong ones though. Those take salt water and/or other measures.
Is the ghost unfriendly? Is there a reason that your friend wants to banish it? First one could try just asking the ghost to leave, or trying to communicate with it. Some people allow the ghost to stay put and just state some ground rules.

The ghost is unsetting a toddler daughter is why.. they just moved in... my initial queries (i haven't been to the house yet) via scrying and tarot says clearly that it is a female spirt that lived at the house before.. (it seems it doesn't mean harm) but terrifies the girl.

I'll visit the house this week...

Well if the spirit doesn't seem to mean any harm then banishing it would be a bit much. It would be best to try the bowl of salt, and/or garlic in the little girl's room.

A bowl of Salt mixed with Black Pepper. The salt will absorb energy, the pepper will banish it.

I've often wondered about this.
Maybe you could gently persuade her to leave with the help of a reputable medium, as I'm sure she would be happier in an environment more suited to her present condition.
She could be finding it difficult to let go of something, and it must be a really lonely state of being, which is probably why she is trying to communicate with your friend's daughter.
I bet you have a friend somewhere who knows a medium, as I've been surprised on many an occasion by seemingly skeptical friends.
This ghost thing has puzzled me for a good few years now, as friends are supposed to come and greet us when we die, and I can't think of why this seems not to be the case with certain individuals.
Any ideas anyone?
I've thought of using an Ouija board before now, and have done so on many occasions, but the spirits I've encountered have arrived at our invitation and have generally been good natured, but you tend to get whatever happens to be passing by at the time and I've had a couple of hairy moments.
Anyway, hope this has helped.

Burning Angelica leaves is a great way to get rid of negative spirits...but if it is not negative, I dont know if it will work. I don't know why somone would want to banosh a postive spirt. : ).

But there my ba like some char (or you could make one) to protect the child from spirits...

I forgot to update this.... and let you know what happened.. did a few things recommended here and learned the LBRP
and the ghost seemed to be gone for a while ...the ghost however returned.... stronger than ever.. frightening the children, but not intentionally, just because of her "form"

I returned to the house, clearly felt her presence , in the kitchen , i tried , but could not see her...
so I invoked a conversation with an angel that i've worked with a lot, (can see and hear)
who then explained the lady's (ghost) history, (she'd died in house, didn't know or didn't accept that she was dead ,
, her name was "Janet", she had been a grade-school teacher and was attrached to the 2 very young children
that had just moved into the house) Angel explained that she was frightening then children and life /afterlife , and then directed her "to the light"

the ghost left (many months ago) and has not returned.. children stopped seeing her immeditately. Angel explained, that the banishing will work for a while (though angel says only when combined with meditation, else there are "leaks") and that in most cases, directing the soul
"to the light" is the best response

Just for added techniques, burning sage and smudging the room/entire house is a great way to clear and purify any area (prayer and/or mantra with this also boosts the effects greatly). And besides the classic christian exorcism, there is also a few other exorcisms, like Peter J Carroll has a Priest of Chaos exorcism rite in Liber Null and Psychonaut, and this is an unoffical exorcism ritual of the thelemic Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica (link here: http://www.hermetic.com/sabazius/exorcism.htm ).

I would recommend that you fumigate the entire house with two types of smoke: copal burned charcoal or a sage smudge bundle. Waft the smoke into the four directions and ask for the protection of the four cardinal points. Sage and copal are readily available at most major botanicas or occult shops. Also, you could hang a ring of garlic at your doorstep. Another thing you could do is get a prenda, or nganga. This is a pot in which different items of power are put in. Things like earth, sand, river water, rain water, sea water, church dirt, cemetary dirt, leaves, herbs, sticks, pine cones, rocks, precious stones, quartz crystals, bones. By accumulating these spirit helpers in your pots, you begin to manage what is known as nkisi energy which serves as a collective spirit of the pot. Being in possession of a nganga will fumigate a house of unwanted spirits.

Depending on the tenacity of the spirit, the LBRP will likely get rid of it for 24 hours at most. It may also be considerably angry when it returns, (if it does) as well.

I would recommend someone else's suggestion, for getting in contact with the spirit, to find out what it wants. Generally if you give them what they want, they will leave on their own; but trying to get rid of them by other means will usually just antagonise them and cause further problems. You probably *could* create a scenario where the spirit was confined to a certain designated area of the house, but getting rid of it entirely would likely be a lot more difficult.

I think a banishment would be too extreme if nothing happened or their is benign activity. I would recommended a house or land blessing to protect the home.
