I never associated much beauty to the city. Sure there is architecture, and parks, and they are lovely in their own way. But they are cold, rigid, and man made. Whenever i look for real beauty it has been in nature. I love the smell, the look of trees as their leaves sway in the wind. The birds, the deer. How the colors are random and spread out, yet comforting to all the senses. I have never found more beauty then in the forest, except perhaps in a woman's eyes.
However today i realized a beauty the city had to offer. It has comforted me since a small child, but i never gave it the recognition it deserves. In any house in philly during the right time of the day if you sit in a room with windows facing the street you get a wonderful light show. As the light reflects off the other homes and cars in the street it creates patterns of light reflecting on the wall like being inside a perfectly cut diamond. As if that weren't enough as cars and trucks pass by the light dancing off the passing vehicles cause the patterns on the walls to dance around in sync to the sound of passing by engines. If you let yourself get lost in the moment, as i usually do, it becomes a wonderful dance of sound and light.
I have memories from a small child of sitting in my grandmothers house watching the lights on the ceiling dance around as the cars go by outside. Id spend hours sometimes just getting lost in the light show. I never realized until today how comforting this has always been for me.
