Display Icon Help, Difficulty in putting up display picture Options

Dear Ma'am / Sir,

I am having the greatest of difficulty putting up my own select display picture. Therefore, I do not want to use the pictures offered in the forums. If I copy and paste a picture from say, google images onto a microsoft word document, what is my next step to having that be my display picture? Nothing worked when I put in the document's name in arvatar. All that I got was an error message. In other words, what are the steps in putting up your display icon? I'm not so good at computer terminology so if you could make the instructions as simple as possible it would be most appreciated, indeed.

I'll give a quick hint with little time I have right now. Save the picture you want to your hard drive as a .gif, .jpg, .png or .jpeg file, and go to your SMF control box "avatar settings". Select that picture from your drive and just upload. You'd be a lot better off if you can find someone with a good computer literacy offline to help you with this.
