QUOTE
We are a river pouring out of the always nonpresent(?) void".
The problem I have with the statement can be best explained as if it where a mathematical equation.
1. We are a river pouring out of the always (nonpresent void)
2. We are a river pouring out of the (always nonpresent) void
3. We are a river pouring out of the always (nonpresent) void
In 1 it is about nonpresent void that is always there.
In 2 it is about the void that is always not present
In 3 it is about the nonpresence always there in the void
There are still other ways to take it. In the end punctuation is needed, commas semi colons and such. Not by current English rules but by splitting the words and giving significance to each word differently…giving value.
For a true mind screw, you can use this phrase again in different places each with a different significance. But those where the things going through my mind.
However in reality, you want songs to have a life of their own, the meaning for the composer should never limit the meaning for the listener of the song.
Just some further thoughts.
