I've been doing some research on names and their meanings after having a conversation about it with some friends. I thought I'd go ahead and share some of the sites I've checked out for anyone who's curious.http://www.surnamedb.comhttp://www.behindthename.com These two offer the best info I've found about actual name origins. As it turns out, a lot of names are Hebrew in origin.
My name, James, comes from the name Jacob, which originates from the Hebrew name 'Yaakov'. 'Yaakov' means 'he who supplants'. Supplant means to replace one thing with another, but is often described as one who replaces another through devious means.
My full name would translate out to 'Supplanter of the Field', while my middle name means 'Counselor of the Elves' or 'Magic Counselor'. The middle name really caught my interest. Altogether it seems to mean 'Elf counselor who replants the fields'.
Interesting stuff.
