The reason you can dictate a servitors personality and traits is because of the servitors higher self, the higher self knows you better then anyone else, when you write out a servitors being you are indirectly interacting with its higher self, to that end the higher self can
not lie about who or what the servitors is, its just a matter of you understanding what you're doing when creating it that decides how its going to act toward as a person.

Thats my new view on servitors.

Makes sense to me, I would call it the subconscious though. I was never into the whole higher self aspect, when I use to create servitors on a regular basis it just seemed like the ideas just came to me at the most random times usually when I wasn't thinking about it. I always thought of it as the servitor sort of creating itself...like a servitor that helps your create servitors lol if that makes sense...

Then a servitor is not so unlike yourself... the emnation of a 'higher' being - a being capable of shaping and specifying the personality and purpose, but not generally the actions taken (without very specific steps to instruct the servitor in such a specific way) - who ultimately operates though that limited scope by virtue of being the origin of that new 'minor' consciousness.

Then we are servitors of the higher self - when you create a servitor, you're crafting a part of your own consciousness, through the intention and will to create a thoughtform of such a variety as must possess a portion of your consciousness. Not that this implies a limit, coming from an infinite source, we are infinite.

peace

so . . . actually, since the servitor is made from our "stuff", molded into for by our will, operating on our directive, and ending its existance on our directive . . . we, Will and ego, are the servitors higher-self.

In a sense, we're like gods of creation ( . . . . or if you a guy, like women (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Or, Cloud Hex, am I missing some intermediating theory, between my self and the existance of my servitor (a piece of myself split off and given temporary distinct differentiated identity) ?
Is there some spiritual aspect to a servitor the is more then what it recieves from it creator? (though I wouldn't argue this with certain throughforms, like an egragore . . )

I tend to operate, in relation to my servitors, as if there is always a direct connection between myself and it . . . however tenious.
I see if VERY similarly to the concept of the OBE/AP silver cord.
But I have trouble seeing more, in a higher spiritual way, to that connection. The closest I can get is that WE are thier "high self".
What am I missing?

Well first go back to the basic idea behind animism, pretty much it goes with what i said in the illusions thread I started, everything has a soul, including nothing.

You could say the same for any magical workings. Excellent post and something for all of us to keep in mind.

Except . . a servitor's "soul" is its creators subconscious/spirit/astral-body . . . so the servitor already begins with a "soul". No need to have another.
(Just my opinion)

(and I'm not entirely sure what a "soul" is . . or whether everything has whatever a "soul" might be . . . nor whether I agree that animism is a believe that everything has a "soul"

Seems to me that a Servitor's "Higher Self" is the Mage emanating as it.

In complementary comparison: a Servitor's "Lower Self" is the instinctive pattern which the Mage establishes for sustaining the Serivtor's survival in the environment while it actualizes its Mage bestowed purpose for existing.
