Hi people,
I'm new here. My name is Natan and I'm from Yugoslavia. I recently found this Forum, found it very interesting and I decide to register.
English is not my first language so I apologize if I have some errors in my writings.
I'm a follower of a Franz Bardons system of Hermetical/Magical training but I'm also interested in other occult approaches.
My question here is to the ones here that are familiar with Astrology. I know that it is not recommended to start anything new when the Moon is Void of Course. So, my question is do you found this to be true for magical operations also or for mundane actions only? For example, I want to work on changing some my character traits and I want to start today, but I saw that today is a Void of Course so I don't know if its ok to start or to wait till tomorrow?!
Is here someone experienced in this kind of approach?

Thank you!

Natan,

If you are partial to Astrology as the basis of your decisions, this is typically interpreted as a bad time to begin projects.

Aspects, the relationships between the planets, are used in Astrology to observe paired or grouped influences of the planets. For Example, a relationship drawn between Mars (work, aggression, initiative) and the Moon (intuition, emotion, introspection) shows some connection between a person's inner identity and what he or she does in the world. This can be a strong or a weak aspect, either of which may be fortunate or unfortunate. These distinctions, and the placement of the planets in the signs and whether they are exalted or afflicted there, provide the bulk of data for the interpretive process.

The aspects are drawn on a chart as lines, and are calculated by angle. The strongest aspects are at 0 and 180 degrees: in opposing signs. There are Positive aspects, where the planets work together, indicating that their sign positions are either of the same element (in "Trine") or the same principle character ("sextile"). There are Negative aspects, called Square and Semi-Square, when the elements are incompatible. There are also Weak aspects, which are generally not considered when defining the Moon being Void of Course.

When the Moon is "Void of Course," it means that the Moon does not form any other relationships with the planets until it enters the next sign. If each sign were one round of play, the "void" indicates that the player had finished its turn for that round.

Every planet goes into the void in the same way: when no new aspects are formed until it exits the sign. The Moon tends to be brought into focus on this issue since it moves through the signs more quickly and thus has a better chance to enter the void. Jupiter, for example, moves slowly and some of the planets are bound to form an aspect with it before it moves very far.

Of course it is up to you to determine whether or not this affects your work, occult or otherwise. It is helpful at least to know the nature of the "event" and then to decide if that has any bearing on what you want to do. The idea that one ought to avoid doing anything during this time might have something to do with the idea that new projects are cast into the uncertain future from within the world of ideas, and are thus under the influence of the Moon. New projects depend on making connections, having more going on than just an idea, and having some element that gives them character and direction. Then again, avoiding work or initiative during this time might be only needless delay. It is up to you to decide: it is not written in the stars.

Hi Imperial Arts,

Thank you for your replay. I'm not an absolute beginner in Astrology and I know about basic stuffs and meanings of the planets/signs/aspects/houses but its great to see how you look at the relationships between planets i.e. aspects.
As for the things that "it is not written in the stars" I would agree and disagree with you. In my opinion, some things are indeed written in the stars, but some not. I see it like this: Life is a book in which the titles of the chapters are written, but under the titles there's a blank space which we scribed with our living and way of living (action/doing/thinking). However, I know that the Moon is reflecting ideas from the astral plane in to this physical plane, therefor I asked the question is it ok to begin with spiritual actions in certain periods. Yesterday I learned about Moons 28 Mansions and how the ancient sages were doing every action according to this 28 mansions. Have you heard about them?

Best,
Natan

The 28 Lunar mansions are reckoned by reference to groups of stars rather than to the Zodiac. For example, the star Botein (the belly of the ram) is actually found in the second decanate of Taurus, nearly thirty degrees out of its expected place. This is due to the shifting of the Earth's pole which will continue to offset the stars and their traditional or "tropical" placements. The positions change over time, so your ephemeris should reflect the changes.

The belly of Aries, in this example, has moved nearly half a degree in the last century. It isn't much for an astronomer, but it makes a difference when calculating the aspects since a current placement might be beyond the "orb" allowed for that aspect. All conjunctions of the planets to fixed stars should be given a very precise measure, with about half a degree allowed on either side.

I am quite familiar with the Lunar Mansions. My introduction to the idea comes from Barrett, who in turn copied Agrippa, who copied Picatrix, who copied the ancient lore, wherein there are various confounded talismans and their consecration formulae. I gave this considerable attention to this aspect of Astrology in 2004-2006 as part of my ongoing conjuration experiments. I have spoken very little about it here, having other matters to discuss, but have put together several of the talismans as described and adapted the basic concept to my own approaches. I'm sure there are old B&W copies of my Lunar Mansion illustrations circulating here and there, but the full-color edition remains privately printed.
