I had a dream in which I saw a Star of David with a skull floating in the center. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yikes.gif)

What is the significance of this symbolism? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused012.gif)

On the ribald angle...Death is Jewish? Or maybe a left over from the Nazi party... Sorry for my flippancy, you caught me at a light-hearted moment. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clown.gif)

Hi, it would be interesting to know a bit more about your own racial, social and personal practices and belief systems before pursuing a line of enquiry. It could mean various things, but I think it might have as much to do with where you are at in relation to all these as anything else! There is rich symbolism in your dream but only insofar as it conjures systems that are familiar in some way to you.

It could mean a variety of things, you have to give a little more background to your story. If you dont mind me asking, can you answer the following questions?

1: What is your ethnicity?
2: If your are not Jewish, do you have a particular interest in Jewish/Semitic culture/religion?
3: Have you in the past used the Star of David in any magickal workings? If so, what deities did you invoke/what was the purpose?

I have seen the Star of David in my dreams plenty of times, but always in a positive view, but I am Jewish.

1. I'm not Jewish (Grew up Methodist.) I've no particular interest in Judaism.

2. I'm wondering if it might actually be the Seal of Solomon (I've invoked Merlin in the past ... and the SOS is an alchemical symbol meaning transmutation/transformation.)

3. I've invoked Merlin in order to seek his wisdom.

hmm, well that could mean a variety of things. It could mean that you have succesfully invoked Merlin's spirirt, but it could also mean that he is not pleased with it (was the invocation of Merlin successful? did you gain the wisdom that you had used to call? If not so, it could possibly mean Merlin is not happy, but if it went well, it could mean Merlin might want to have a relationship with you on a permanent basis[from what you have said it sounds like the skull might represent the Merlin , as the center of the Star of David is the most powerful part of it])
Have you used the star of David(SOS whatever you want to call it) to invoke any other deities?

Merlin is a good spirit.

If you're sincere, he'll teach you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

From what I've read, the skull can also represent wisdom and/or secrets of the mind.

I've never felt the need to use it anywhere else (I did not invoke the SOS so much as it just appeared to me.)

for my, possibly whacked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) , interpretation, the star of david is just the 6 point star (udlrfb), or the upper pyramid of energy flow downward from the source connected to the lower pryramid that is the drain back to the same source, making the oroburos or circular path of energy - move the two triangles up and down respectively until they share one base, which is the pythagoran ideal of the reconciler of the two legs and now also of the two triangles - the skull, especially of crystal, is of course a symbol of power and existence beyond death, and in the position of reconciler, is therefore the master of the source, hence your vision of the energy flow into power, sorceress!!! - i think you will find this is one of those power dreams, which eventually come to all who practice, after which, gates open to you that were locked before you understood how things work - it is still many layers of reality below the true existence of what power really is and your first glimpse at the reality of the void, but you are peeling the onion!!! - good job!!!

My two cents

I think the hexagram has nothing to do with judiasm, as you said that you've never had any part of any Jewish practice. I think the six sided star is more related to symmetry and perhaps sacred geometry. The skull could relate to wisdom and if to you that would make sense then I think that is all the answer you need. An alternative idea is that skull contrasts the hexagram. So while on one hand you have symmetry and some sense of order, the skull could represent something menacing that order. It would also depend on the manner in which you saw the skull. If it seemed menacing then it would probably not a positive aspect. If it was relatively beignin then I would lean towards the wisdom angle.

Since I have never invoked Merlin or even looked at a ritual for that purpose I cannot tell you how the hexagram relates to that experience.

Hi Sorceress - just revisited your post.

Funny thing is, my suspicion is that this is not particularly related to personal (intra-individual) stuff. There is something that smacks of the extra-personal. The symbolism is almost too strong (I guess I mean archetypal, mythical, intrinsic, or whatever term you choose to apply). Was there anything in the actual quality, perception or deep recognition in that dream state that you were in which give you a qualitative awareness, regardless of the symbolic content? Maybe that doesn't make sense, but often times these things are not supposed to convey meaning in the ways that we are looking for. Just my five shilling's worth!
