Who can tell me what the law of The Covenant is about, and how it relates tro humanity?

Who instigated this Covenant and why ?

Finally; who are the keepers of the Covenant ?

These are not trick questions, but I believe them to be vital if one is to be a true magic practicing Priest, or Wiccan.

What covenant is this. unless you are sworn into a Coven were you have a rule of secrecy. I don't understand what you could mean by Covenant for solitary wiccans.

There are craft laws in Gardnerian Wicca like the Ardaines, which is widely assumed to have been written by Gerald Gardner (though written in a pseuso-archaic style) in 1957. Gardner released these laws at a time that his followers were getting concerned over his leadership. Some parts of these Ardaines are paraphrases of things Gardner wrote in his book Witchcraft Today or his unpublished "Ye Bok of Ye Art Magical" Some parts may be very old. But other parts seem to have been specifically written for this confrontation between himself and certain members of his coven. As a result, his high priestess Doreen Valiente and a few others left the coven. That is the only covenant law that I have heard of with regards to wiccans.

We tend to take the Ardaines with a grain of salt. There are other craft laws and Gardnerian practices that we take more seriously.

... and here I was sitting and saying to myself, "what Covenant Law? did I miss a memo?"

I've never stumbled across anything like it in my study of traditional witchcraft. Yeah, there are rules and stuff that are often trad specific, but no official "Covenant of the Witches" or anything.

The Covenant came to light in 2006. It was not very well received by most people. Many felt that the words were very poorly chosen, and just as poorly presented. They also felt that the ideas contained within the covenant were pretty lame. It was directed by Renny Harlin, and starred... actually I'm looking at the cast list and I don't know any of these actors. Like I said, it wasn't a very good movie.

nice catch, kath! - and merry meet by the way!

lol - a movie? - here i was thinking it was some sort of angelwicca or something - figures, what with the teen angst for secret knowledge nowadays - yep, 4 goiters at a massachussets high school take on some inevitable opposite-extreme fifth presence, long thought to be dead and gone but oh it was just sleeping

stupid children, when will they realize the war is not outside themselves, fighting some extreme opposite their own, but the fight is within themselves, struggling against their own physical nature to tear free from their restrictive existence in the extremes, and graduate into the free middle

ewww, i have the swine flewww - i got it at the witch's ball (which was a rousing success by the way!), actually i brought it home, like a souvenir lol - i got it from either too much circle dancing (reel after reel after reel) or too much dining (oh, the food!) or too much schmoozing (i.e., gossip, catching up, herb and recipe and spell trading, etc) with all my witchy friends (that i was so glad to see!) whose kids were oh so happy to share their intentionally indoctrinated swine flu with their families, and they were so sweet to share it with me - and i got them no gift in return, ohhh we'll have to see about that lol - bless their sweet little ignorant germ-sharing souls, unless they knew that they were sick and carried on anyway - nice fever, and some wonderful vertigo that i am toying around with

hehe, well the original post probably wasn't talking about a movie, I dunno. it probably does have something to do with angelwicca or something.
It just seemed like a horribly vague question so I ran with it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

no offense intended Kimbal, we're just not sure what covenant you're referring to, and I got a bit silly... or at least I think I did, maybe you *were* talking about a movie... in which case I would have been trying to be silly, and failing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush2.gif)

eep, do take care of yourself, swine flu is pretty serious stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/compress.gif)
and stay in your house! the vaccines aren't really ready yet to protect those who are at risk of dying from it. but hey, free license to order in pizza every night, right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)

eek! - no vaccines or tamiflu for this auld hexe!!! - just a bag of coneflower and star anise on that pizza and a lot of rest and a few carefully-drawn sigils here and there - hopefully i won't look like a walking tattoo like the last time i was sick (years ago) - only problem with coneflower is that it flares up my arthritis pretty bad, but i'm hobbling around ok so far

interesting: andrew collins has (re)discovered a huge maze of caverns beneath the plain at giza - a monstrous labyrinth of water-carved caverns rumored to hold the tomb of thoth (aka hermes, but the greeks were after my time, in fact they were the enemy) - in the tomb of thoth supposedly lies some old tablet of creation or other dusty relic of our true history

hmmm...analysing...um, would the underlying concept that is important to all practicing whatever be 'morality'? - sticking to your guns and doing what you think is correct after, um, analysing

is that how you define 'morality'? if so then I believe in your version. I usually say that I don't believe in morality though. I think a person must be true to themselves, to their true will, and that failure to do so is self-damaging.
I'm not a fan of opinion based, dogma enforced, rulebook styled "right&wrong" schemes though.

there is of course "the covenant" in judaism and christianity. referring to god's covenant with his 'chosen' people, and in the christian version, a new covenant after the coming of the messiah.
but I doubt that's the covenant in question, since this is the witchcraft board.

I'm sure there are specific traditions in which there is a single overriding covenant, such that everyone in that particular path would know what covenant is "THE" covenant. But that's gonna vary between traditions.

so this covenant is vitally empowering to the practice of magick, within your paradigm? are you referring to a sort of 'pact' with an incorporeal being? if so then yes that would be instrumental for the practicing of magick, but certainly not "vital".
But without knowing which tradition you're referring to, it's impossible to really delve into the matter. the fact that you seem to think that there is a particular 'true way' suggests that either you've been hanging around monotheists a lot, or that your magickal path is not very eclectic (which is fine), or that you're new at this and have been exposed to a particular notion without realizing the diversity of beliefs & methods which are out there yet (which is also fine). I guess hanging around monotheists a lot is fine too really.

Ah yes, the old obscure bad movie ploy. I fell for it, but I'm not especially knowledgeable about obscure movies.
