QUOTE(Skylyn) Can you tell I was one of those 'why' kids who drove my poor folks nuts? I was/am one of those too, so it's perfectly understandable. I'll repost it at the bottom of this post (as best as I can... it'll be the same gist I guess). I would have less trouble with the "excitables" than you I'd imagine. For some reason they answer "why"s more readily when they come from someone they can connect with. As for "exposing" them... I feel that they'll eventually wake up to themselves on their own, so it's not worth it - and that kind of reaction can cause them to make it even more ingrained ("I'm the persecuted vampire" type thing). ------- Even among those who don't believe in a curse (like me), there are those who try to get past the dependency on others. I've yet to come across any indication of who did the "cursing" among those who believe in the curse, but I imagine that the answer would be as varied as all the different belief systems out there. The best answer I got out of an optometrist on that one is "your eyes are more sensitive". Basic things they've observed are that my pupils dilate and contract about 7 times faster than the average humans... and that I get pain from too much light stimulation. That can be read two ways I guess - either that my pupils react so fast as a defensive mechanism, or that my pupils react too fast causing tissue damage. Since the pain's in the retina though (back of my eyes feel like they're on fire), the former is more likely. And no, by whirlpools, I sorta meant they're a focal point around which surrounding energy swirls. Crowds are affected by the presence of a vampire. Similar to the rubber sheet model of the universe, vampires are sortof like depressions in the "energy sheet", causing the energy to swirl around them. That's the best way to put it I guess. It can be countered with conscious effort by the vampire... but that's generally how it works.

The value of an individual is not numerically assignable. Given the individual's infinite capacity to affect change (for better or for worse), it follows that their value is just as infinite. Logically then, not only are all individuals of equal value, but all possible combinations and groupings of individuals are of equal value, and finally, no matter an individual's past actions, their capacity to affect positive change is not diminished.
The value of the individual is sacrosanct, but actions must be directed in an effort to affect positive change.

The thing with many pseudo-vamps is that they are living a delusion. Much like a drug addict. They will go through phases of this reallity trying to justify their beliefs and actions. Kind of like a cycle; the "its not a problem" phase, denial, the feelings of persecution, or that they are all alone. These type are really escaping reallity much like a drug user does so with drugs. This probably sounds kind of funny comming from a guy with a marijuana avatar! Why do drug addicts use drugs? It gives them a gise of being sexy, confident, cool, popular, its glamourous and thats what they initially get addicted to. A mental addiction to being "complete" in some way. In a wierd twist people, esp teens, identify with vampires in a similar manner. Then create this whole facade of themselves being a vampire. This may be because they grew up not being popular or picked on never really fitting in. And as a defense mechanism found vampirism as a way to escape reallity and feel better. The glamour is a state of mind that is addicting. People actually do start to believe they are vampires (amoung other outrageous claims) dependant on blood and darkness to surivive.
This is the reason I make it a point to expose these types. Role playing in D&D is one thing. But actually taking on vampirism as an actual condition is lunacy. I am of the mind that by exposing these people I am catalyzing this cycle of lies and denial to reach its final point - acceptance. Which unfortunately seems to require a break down before hand (rock bottom so to speak). The sooner they realize the facade is fake the sooner they can accept it, heal and move on.

QUOTE(bym) Something like a human 'energy sink'? Energy sink is the best way of putting it, yes. QUOTE(Acid09) The sooner they realize the facade is fake the sooner they can accept it, heal and move on. As I said to a friend recently when discussing rape: How are you going to educate people who are unwilling to be educated?

I've heard many stories of vampires being real or not, but i will stay neutral on this matter as im not sure what it is. Anyhow, i do know a fact about blood; the body's spirit is closely tied to the blood, and drinking the blood freshly out of another does infact give energy which is entwined with the blood. Alot of witches and rituals i've heard of have these blood practices; and i think some blood sacrifices are ways of giving blood/energy to the deities.
This is a fact that can lead to actual vampires who need blood to survive, because blood, afterall, is energy...and not everyone has the psychic abilities to steal energy otherwise(i.e psychic vampires). I say this because i've known quite a few blood sucking vampires.
As for the folklore about dracula, he was just an ordinary man who had morbid pleasure in torturing people and new that blood was a divine thing to drink filled with rich energy. But the thing about eternal vampires...there is no such thing or it'd be quite obvious.
As for the fear of sun, i can relate to this... I myself am nocturnal and sleep during the hours of the sun. I do thus because during the hours where the sun is out i tend to get headaches, i do not feel good, i feel lethargic, i hate the way it looks, it burns my rather pallor skin. Though it cannot kill me although i feel close to death at times, however, i do not need blood to survive.
My point is to keep open minds about everything, don't listen to bs stories about vampires living immortally and other stuff as thus, but keep open about the possibilities, because they're endless.

Ah, the vampire, a sad, demented creature with a great publicist;
It is my understanding that the range of vampyric manifestation runs from actual entities bound to their corpses who etherically journey amongst the living to drain energy, if not blood, to corporeal beings who drain energy from other corporeal beings, including animals, in the form of blood or energy. What a sad bunch! The quest for eternal life probably started with a nobler purpose than the perpetuation of their ability to continue pursuing eternal life.
I have encountered several vampires. Ann Rice created a bloom of them with those stupid books which glamorized the near- living. Goth subculture subsequently enshrined them as royalty. In terms of those who actually drank blood the bloom was off the rose, so to speak, when aids killed off scores in New Orleans alone.
Most of the vampires I met merely feed off of other's energy. To be fair, most of the "victims" were positively jumping up and down to participate in the ritual, but that doesn't really make the vamps actions more acceptable. I believe that, as in all affairs magical, the bulk of the responsibility for a situation rests upon the shoulders of the most aware participant. For this reason, I don't associate with vampires, so as not be sullied by their selfish natures.
The worst example of wasted flesh was a female vampire who did subsistence feeding on small creatures to supplement the meals she took from her sexual partners. Where's a sharpened stake when you need one?
