Based on my understanding of sigils, is to make them as accurate as possible…this might include a time element or not.
The idea is that it is thrown out into the collective universe with a set amount of focus and force.
Depending on whose theory you follow, a spell/sigil comes out to be something like this (ability + force + focus = magickal result.
So specific time can add to focus, it can detract from it if it is not enough time to totally embody it’s result, or if it is too long and dissipates because of not enough focus, force and ability to allow it to last before other forces seeking power for their ends tear it to shreds.
I like to think of a sigil as a bullet that I want to use the orbit of the earth to speed it up before hitting it’s target. (I know this is wrong, but it works for an explanation)
Ability = Aim Force = Size of the projectile Focus= integrity of projectile or it’s ability to stay together.
The more time allowed, the more force the projectile can pick up on it’s own. However this is countered by focus and the ability to keep it together.
With ability, you are able to do a lot more with less, thus faster results. Ultimately in all sigil use you are expecting it to attract or extract an amount of energy from the collective, that you did not put it to it. This is the added complexity of sigil use, however it is also its strength.
Also remember most spells will fail or have results not totally in line with your hopes. So cast 10 as opposed to 1.
One thing I did when it comes to attack and defense, I made about 200 sigils for every possible scenario I could think of at the time. It took me a long time to empower all of these, but I also forgot what was what…part of the required need. I have not felt the need to use many of these except in astral travel, where I am forcing myself into danger, but that might have been the result. That and it gave me a great chance to practice a lot.
I am thinking of doing this again, though not in the same paranoid way…shooting for other results, but it was well worth the effort in my calculations.
