Hello everyone,

I'm a math/science person with a longstanding interest in psi and the occult. Thank god for the internet. If I discussed this stuff with people IRL it would be professional suicide. Cheers to all of you, and lattes all around the house.

Good day to you madam, may your time with us be both enlightening and prosperous.

I'm sure i don't speak purely for myself when i say a fine lady with talents in Math and the Sciences will find herself very well qualified for her studies in the Occult.

I very much look forward to your posts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thank you very much, Draw. In modern times, scientists and occult practitioners tend to view the other camp with hostility. But it wasn't always like that. I'm thinking of the Renaissance, when science and magic were both wrapped up in the single project of "natural philosphy." I would like to return to that approach. The scientific method is just that, a method, and not a special subject matter like lasers. It has proven very effective at sorting out which statements about the natural world are true and which are false. At least, statements like "baking soda is basic and will raise the pH of water to which it is added." What about statements like "baking soda has powerful spiritual cleansing properties." Although the latter statement is a little harder to test, it could be done with some double-blind trials and statistical analysis.

Anyway, my goals are to (1) find out what works to produce results (in the physical world; anything else might be self-deception), and (2) once we have a system that works, what elements of it are arbitrary and which are essential, e.g., Do the candles really need to be this color? You know, the classic necessary and sufficient conditions.

The first thing I'd like to investigate are the planetary hours. Do they really matter? Any input is appreciated.

Cool, reminds me of the attitude i first took when embarking on this series of experiments lol

Seriously the scientific method is very applicable in the world of the occult,
although i would recommend not holding all your worth in physical manifestations as the function of spiritual matters is usually quite a personal one an as-such requires equal effort in order to grow.

I would personally say that the colour of candles doesn't matter, and then i would change my mind.
If you find the answer let me know.

I couldn't tell you much about planetary hours but i do hold a lot of worth for good astrology
Best site for that is www.astro.com

You should be brave an start off a topic!

planetary hours absolutely matter and, in my opinion, have an affect. I would argue that one until I am blue in the face. They matter, but you can do magic whenever, my point is they have an influence.

Maybe they do. I don't have any faith in astrology, but it is possible that, for some reason, there is this repeating sequence of seven "tints" that color our mood, our energy level, etc. That is, maybe the "planetary" hours do have their reputed effect, but not for the reasons astrologers think they do; maybe the planets in the solar system are not the agents effecting this influence. So many occult phenomena to investigate, so little time... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Tomber.. what do you mean by planetary hours? i'm interested, if you are talking about astrology what influences would you recommend for what?

Timing is obviously quite essential but a lazy man such as myself could do with some tips an you are much better read than i am.

I have a theory on why natal astrology works, it is like this;
When you are in mum's tummy, everything is kept quite perfect, all radiation is filtered out via mum's own aura/body.
The planets all seem to represent fundamental mental processes, while in the womb these are nurtured in the surrounding fluid.
While their isn't any noticeable radiation reaching baby, baby can still observe the energy's of the outside world through the energy fields of the mother,
so these mental processes are indirectly influenced by outside forces (such as people, an other stuff)
When baby comes out he/she experiences the loss of the shielding/support of the mother an finds the magnetic shield of the earth instead.
As scientist generally testify as the reason astrology doesn't work, little radiation from planets can penetrate the earths magnetic field,
but since this field is absorbing all the radiation as a mother would i suspect that the information as to the relative placements of planetary objects is present within the Earths fields.
So babys like, where's all that stuff i had inside?.. oh their it is.

I'm sure their are loads of other theory's on the subject, but that's my simplistic one for you (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Edit: just realized Myrna has made a topic elsewhere! should have posted their.

I use those "tints" of human personality as a person code to categorize all human behavior I see. When I see someone get mad I try and make the connection of "Oh, she might have something aspect something in something" or "I wonder if he has Taurus rising or sun in Taurus, or sun in the second house opposite Venus or something". I would have to say astrology is one of the easier occult phenomena to prove to oneself just because of the patter and visible results that a good astrologer can translate into events for someone not familiar with it.

Draw, I would try checking out: Liz Green, William Lily, and Noel Tyl. They are my favorites
