So, elsewhere I've mentioned that I'm closing shop in Athens and moving to Portland. Any of you who have been reading for a while may know that I initially started this business within a couple of months of creating Jupiter talisman for this purpose. We got the funding we needed quickly and with few strings attached, we found a great location at a great deal, and on day one we had people in the door from a banner outside the building.
We did pretty well. And although business fluctuated, we were in a position where we could have continued indefinitely - we are closing because we (the other owner that came on last year, and myself) we both want to be in different places. And I noticed something that served for me as a valuable lesson in magic, following through, and getting what you ask for.
This is a decision that I could have made six months ago. That was the point at which I was really ready to leave. However, I had a weight of reputation, demand, clients that relied upon me for their health, the wellbeing of my employees, and a responsibility to my partner. The magic of Jupiter is helpful in acquiring long term investments, things that last, and positions of authority. What I wanted was a successful business that would last. What I got was a business that was successful in accomplishing a goal - helping people - and became very well known and respected in a very short amount of time. We entered the 'black' about six months in and then stayed there. Even when it was slow, we made what we needed to in order to keep the place open and pay our employees well. Because of the sacrifices I made, my employees, and the clients that had any idea what the back end looked like, all have a great deal of respect for me. I'm known in town by people who I haven't met, but have heard of me and the work that I do.
Those of you that have run a business before might already know that these things, while excellent and only possible to get gradually and with patience, do not pay your bills.
The magic of jupiter seems to create a sense of obligation, respect, and fidelity. These things are the basis of any good long term investments, and I think that it is useful in assuring that you are not taken advantage of, for instance. However, I think that without a composition including mercury, for instance, it's ability to generate income specifically is a secondary and far weaker presence. Jupiter is a planetary energy of fortune, wealth, power - but not necessarily riches.
When i arrive in portland, the first thing I will be doing is beginning the process of building my practice there all over again. This time I will still include Jupiter, but I will play it to it's particular strength - establishing reputation, and giving my new business staying power. Mercury will govern the income/outgo of money, Venus and Luna the nature of the work and fostering the sense of health, introspection, and change. Mars will be present to engage the energy of action and forward movement, held in check by Saturn which serves both to focus the wild energy of Mars as well as guard the 'borders' of my business, pushing the boundaries of it outwards only when I wish them to expand. The Sun will ensure that all know of me and honor me and my work.
Having worked often with only single planetary energies, or with combinations of two, I believe that for very specific tasks they work well. But, for projects normally one or two will not be enough to cover all the bases. I considered employing all seven to turn around my business here, but there's the danger of Jupiter on it's own - I felt a great sense of obligation to my clients, and to my own reputation, and nearly decided to keep at it simply because they expected it of me. That, however, runs contrary to what will help me be happy in the long run. It was an effort to turn against the tide of the pressure and make the decision to move on.
So that's my recent object lesson in the practical magic of Jupiter. If you wish for others to feel a sense of respect and obligation to you, it is excellent for that purpose. A wealth of friends, subordinates, etc., it can bring you. However, it obligates you in return, so use it wisely. Temper it with Mercury especially to have the love of friends and acquaintances, or with the Sun to gain the respect of authority figures and even ultimately make them into subordinates.
There is always so much more to learn by doing than by reading or even contemplating. I wouldn't change a thing about the last two years, but it was a lesson learned through a great deal of frustrating experience.
Peace

QUOTE(Mchawi @ Jun 30 2013, 11:35 AM) Intriguing.
When you say that you worked with Jupiter in this what system/approach did you use.
Sounds like its influence lasted a long time, from what I re-call you say you buried a talisman?
(Read this a while ago and struggled to login to reply at the time)

I created a talisman using a simple method of correspondence imagery - one one side the correspondences to the intelligences and spirits of jupiter, on the other the talismanic image of what I wished to accomplish represented geometrically along with words in hebrew related to the purpose both in meaning and through gematria. The work itself is really in bringing the talisman to life at the right moment, for me this was a thursday while jupiter was on the midheaven. I suppose it's closest to Agrippa's system of talismanic magic, but i've been working it so long it's gone through minor changes based on experience and experimentation. The influence lasted a long time, and to some degree still is. Some of the fall out from closing the business has been that our clients continue to hound us with the attitude that we somehow betrayed their trust by closing! I'm still seeing several of my clients in their homes, and I am treated as an honored guest while I am there. This is a good thing in that there is appropriate respect... less of a good thing because there is a higher likelihood that I will offend someone by declining an invitation to dinner with their family after an appointment. Live and learn. When i move to portland, I will exercise greater foresight. peace

Well, it worked. Did well to prevent it falling into its negative aspects considering the few slights you seem to have had with it, suppose the worst would be that some would suffer a blind infatuation with you and your company .lol.
Am planning to work with talismans soon myself, within the G.D paradigm though so not as immediately impactful as your working perhaps... working with P.Alchemy charging, breathing life into products is an issue so it came to me to design large-ish sized talismans utilizing the correct metals, names and so on but in its centre, upon the metal itself (as a decending manifestation of the 4 worlds) I would leave a blank space to inscribe an intent at any one point in time, so it might be to bring life to a P.Alchemy product or some other intent, wiping it clean when the goal has been achived ready for use again. This way its possible to keep a talisman throughout my career, in your case it would be possible to clear the image of the goal and intent and replace it with another when necessary.
Did you have to recharge yours at any one point or have you bound the intelligences to it?
Peace M

It isn't necessary to recharge a talisman. The only things that need recharging, as it were, are things like spirit bottles, etc., in which you are making regular offerings in exchange for the assistance of a housed spirit. The thing about writing something down and washing it off later is that symbolically this is entirely transient. That can be a good thing, but imagine that if you could just wash the intention off of the structure, then how much 'staying power' does that intention have on the corresponding spiritual/causal structure? Engraving or carving is connected to the act of creation recorded in the Sefer Yetzirah - that is to say, it is why I do it - in which it is said that God 'Carved them, engraved them...' (re: the formation of the letters and seals). Symbolically, you are acting upon creation in a concrete, permanent way. It has staying power. You're making a groove in your reality, along which energy can then flow. Does that make sense? People use the term 'charging' as it applies to tools and talismans... I have used the word before too, but I've come to think of it more as waking up. I think of how god breathed the Ruach-Elohim into creation, breathed life into adam and eve, etc., there are other references in other religions I just can't recall them precisely off the top of my head here. Anyway, there is always a sense that you are bringing something to life which then sustains itself by virtue of being in creation. That is, at least, how I see them. I don't think of the attachment of the names and seals of spirits or intelligences so much as binding them to the talisman, as it is partaking of the nature of those spiritual forces. A sympathetic expression of their function. peace

QUOTE(Mchawi @ Jul 8 2013, 02:57 PM) Good point, excuse me for sounding lazy .lol. The intention was to have a large talisman 'platform' to work with rather than a tablet or other charging/wakening instrument used to ensnare said energies or petition said forces. This talisman platform would retain power over its use in continued planetary workings as a focal point. Still, your explanation seems solid, to use a word. Will rework the idea.
Question: Have you considered or perhaps do you ask for signs, the idea of 'checks on earth' wherein intelligences are asked to give signs that the talisman/the request is in action?
Might not prove nessary given that its working would prove its doing so but I thought it a nifty idea, in particular if working on anothers behalf. Is mentioned in N.Farrells Making talismans as a tool used by the more Neo-Pagan type.
Peace M
Usually when I make talismans I ask for results within a certain time frame. When I work for others it's normally a celestial time frame (when/before the sun enters such and such sign), and when it's for myself it's more personal. I can't say that I specifically ask for signs, but I notice that they begin to occur in ways and in timing generally harmonious with the nature of the work - this talisman had a lot of fours; four investors, four rooms in the first office, 40 miles to drive to work (almost exactly from my driveway to the office), four major changes were forced before the business could be opened. We were even delayed opening by four days! For me, I analyse most signs and omens numerologically, so these are the omens I tend to notice. Probably there would be others if I was inclined to notice a different kind, which I sometimes do. The omens I get aren't always numerologically related, but they frequently are. I think you see what you look for, and are shown what you will look for. Not lazy. I think of energy in terms of constant vectors, which we influence by stepping into, rather than moving or collecting. But they're both valid paradigms, I think. peace
