We read in Exodus xxviii:xvii-xxi

And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.

And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.

And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.

Is this order from right to left or left to right? As this was translated from Hebrew was the order of the stones reversed?

Which names of the tribes are allotted onto each stone? Every book and website I've read has been different, are they simply to be placed in order of birth from right to left or should the order be based on the numeric values of the names so that they form a kind of magic square?

I tend to meditate or intuit the orders of things when it's not particularly clear from the text. More often than not, it's the belief that of being correct that's more important than the correctness itself.
