I was organizing my files and came to the realization of how much music can influence the mind and assemble like-minded individuals. Heavy metal (especially) has slowly cultivated a new aeon of its own, infatuating young minds and the like. Heavy Metal has been known to have the most occult-related lyrics from all other genres of music, so it will be interesting to see how many metal appreciators there are in these occult forums, and exactly what bands you're interested in.

Nightwish [Gothic Folk]

But I always thought that Nightwish was more of a symphonic/fantasy metal. I like it's etherial sound. It always gets me in a good mood.

But, we can argue about genre calssifications all day, but I choose not to, especially since I am new to metal and simply know what I like:

Scorpions
Dio
Van Halen (Roth? Haggar era? Don't know which yet)
DRAGONFORCE!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
Nightwish
Blue Oyster Cult
Joe Satriani

Looking back, I like classic hard rock more than metal, but ehhh...oh well.

Well good thing you've not come across one of those ignorant BMers with the 666 tags in front of their names lmao! They will hate on you for listening to anything 'artistic' such as Gothic or Classical.

Yes, Nightwish is a good folk metal band with Gothic backgrounds.

Notice how heavy metal has occult background?

Man I can't choose if its heavy and banging I can rock out to it. I grew up on bands like White Zombie, Metallica, Pantera, Korn, Tool, Type-O-Negative, and old school stuff too like AC/DC or Jimmy Hendrix. If it rocks I'm happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/punk.gif)

Ave

First off, I would consider Cradle of Filth to be Black Metal, as well as Dimmu Borgir, as they have those elements of horror and symphonic metal, but not so much as I would call them anything other than straight Black.

Secondly, White Zombie I would consider just Heavy Metal, Metallica is Thrash Metal, Pantera I would call closer to Thrash Metal, Korn is Nu Metal, Tool is an interesting enigma that I oh so love (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif) , Type-O-Negative I would call Nu Metal, debate as you will, as far as the latter, they are just straight up ROCK AND ROLL BRUTHER!

And, thirdly, ya'll kids be jealous because I am going to be throwing down at the Cradle' concert tonight!!! I'll pluck out an eye in memory of you guys who can't attend (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif)

Ad Scientiam

P.S. I also am starting to like Metalcore, even though I abore anything labeled 'core thus far (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif)

Speaking of Tool, I've been listening their newest album lately. I noteced some occult references in their songs. The last track, Viginti Tres, is Latin for 23, which has occult signifiance. I don' know what the actual song means, but it sounds pretty ominous. Also, another song called Lipan Conjuring may be related to the occult. It has a primitive drum beat along with some chanting. I was curious if anyone knows the meaning of the content of these tracks.

I like The Haunted...although I thought the latest album was a bit weak, and I could say the same for a lot of bands I was previously keen on, but I will probably give it another try.

Also Slayer. Everybody loves Slayer.

I am not that up on the metal scene, as most of my friend's hate it. I normally find new stuff scouring amazon and looking at what other bands people are buying as well as the ones that I like, although one of my favourite pubs is a proper metallers' pub, so I often hear cool stuff on the jukebox that I didn't know about before.

Edit: Oh, also Soilwork...their last album kicked ass. I listened to it non-stop for months.

Greetings,

Call me old school but I like Morbid Angel etc.

I think Slayer makes great music but they pi$$ed me off when they were interviewed by Rolling Stone. They said that they are not really Satanic they just do that to make music. Ok thats phoney.

At least Morbid Angel is real they open up Necronomicon Gates in their songs etc. Now thats cool. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/diablo.gif)

Peace!

I don't consider Type-O to be Nu metal because their stuff is a bit older than the stuff korn started calling nu-metal. Personally though I think its pointless to debate because to me all metal is created equally. I can jam out the old school rock because thats where metal got its orgins.

They are kind of hard to understand but if you read their lyrics they are one of the many bands calling upon Necronomicon forces.

Peace

The Thrash band Vader has a lot of Necronomicon related songs, here is their genre description:

Necronomicon, Magic, War, Religion

My 2 favorites are Morbid Angel and Cradle of Filth, but I pretty much like most anything Metal Blade™ records, puts out.
I think the Metallica of old was not bad, BUT Cliff Burton would roll over in his grave if he were to see what Metallica has become.(sell-outs IMO) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bones.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilB.gif)

DOOOOOOOOOOOM metal all the way. I'm also a fan of some of the so-called 'stoner-metal' and 'drone-metal' bands.
Sunn O))), Earth, Khanate, Boris, Sleep, Catacombs, Mammatus...... ahhhh sweet catharsis!

sad to see Murder Metal hasn't got a look in! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

All metal is beautiful and powerfull if it suits you. In various moments of my life I discovered I like different styles of metal, so I've been through AC/DC, Children of Bodom, Manowar, After Forever, Clawfinger, Arch Enemy,of course Iron Maiden, Metallica....PANTERA...., Megadeth, Opeth, Nile, Chimaira, Beseech, Machine Head, In Flames, Rob Zombie, Moonspell, SoulFly, Sepultura, Lacuna Coil...OPERA IX - GREAT OCCULT BAND, loved it when Cadaveria was still with the band.... There is no specific order in my list, but I must say Pantera is the love of my life.
OK, there are many many bands I've listened and liked, and it's great to know that there are many many more with many albums waiting to be discovered.
One of the greatest feelings I have is when I realize( I tend to forget sometimes) that metal is the music of gods...It fills me up, it gives me strength, it calms me down, it's like a medicine.
And that sensation you have when you feel in a certain way (disgusted, sad, happy, in love...) and you have the need to listen to something and you start searching through your albums and discover the one that fits perfectly...you start listening to it and it just covers you up and maximize your feeling until you get the most of it.
Yes...I really am in love with metal...

Yes, that's a good description. Every now and then I feel slightly detached from the 'external' world or feel that I'm not in tune with my physical self (if that makes sense to you?) and listening to the right music helps to 'ground' me and put me at ease. It's like some hidden part of myself is finally given some kind of expression and this is always a relief.

This is especially true of visceral music like metal and is one of the main reasons I like the bands I like.

i don't know what they'd be called as for genre these days, but i have a few old albums like Christian Death (Burn Roz Burn!), Paradise Lost, Spot 1019 and Moonspell for my darker days. and Acid Bath and Coal Chamber. Non-metal would have to be InkubusSukkubus (with the lovely Tony! :slurp:)

Although I'm more into gothrock/deathrock lately, I started with metal bands, which I still love to listen to. My absolute favourites are Moonspell, because they artfully combine music and lyrics. And lyrics in their lead singer's one time side project Daemonarch are entirely occult (names of the tracks like 'Corpus Hermeticum', 'Nine Angles' ect. ).
Tool is another of my favourites. I would say, that occult influence is mostly can be found in their latest three albums, namely Aenima, Lateralus and 10,000 Days. I noticed they like the symbolism of numbers. Someone here already meantioned 23. There is also 11 in song 'Jimmy'. I think that general symbolism of 'Parabola' is also occult. And 'Third Eye' is just plain obvious (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Oh, and I read once in some kind of article that Tool plays grunge. Don't know how much truht there is in this statement though.

My favorite bands are:

Cradle of Filth- Gothic Metal
Into Eternity- Progressive/Death Metal
Graveworm- Gothic Metal
Draconian- Goth-Doom Metal
Nightwish- Symphonic Metal
Lacuna Coil- Gothic Metal
Satyricon- Black Metal
Rotting Christ- Black Metal
Catamenia- Melodic/Black Metal
Moonspell- Gothic Metal
Melechesh- Black/Thrash Metal
Behemoth- Black/Death Metal
Dimmu Borgir- Symphonic/Black Metal
Scar Symmetry- Melodic/Death Metal

I think it's splitting hairs to say that 'Horror and Vampire metal' is an actual genre, and not just a type of gothic metal, sorta how 'Viking metal' is just a type of black metal.

QUOTE(Acid09 @ Feb 21 2007, 10:30 PM) *
Man I can't choose if its heavy and banging I can rock out to it. I grew up on bands like White Zombie, Metallica, Pantera, Korn, Tool, Type-O-Negative, and old school stuff too like AC/DC or Jimmy Hendrix. If it rocks I'm happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/punk.gif)

i must agree whit acid on this one this should have been a multi choice poll heh (IMG:style_emoticons/default/punk.gif)
