(Grand Grimoire stands alone in the literature of demonology with its central figure, Lucifuge Rofocale. The name 'Rofocale' appears to be an anagram for 'Focalor' of the Lemegeton, according to Elizabeth Butler in her Ritual Magic (1949) who goes on to tell us that "by introducing the name of Lucifuge the author has done a service to demonology for which it should be grateful.")

-Ok..So the word is re-arranged..So what? Excuse me if I'm over-complicating things, it's been a long night, but, what is this trying to say? Same entity, different name? Or, just making an observation? I'm not too familiar with the grand grim, since the pdf is unreadable (To me, anyway. Horrible eyesight), and I wont be getting my copy for another month or two, so excuse me in advanced if it's "Obvious by reading the two grimoires".

ok, this is heavy so waders on and two bags o full moon salt, etc.

according to acrophonology - http://users.netonecom.net/~sos/Acrohome.htm,

a name is a face on an entity

the letters and where they are make up the face and the 'effluence' of the entity

rotating them around creates another face of the same entity, but with another ethos

by this loose logic, enterprise becomes terpensire, giant star ship into giant turtle's daddy

SPOILER WARNING
If you don't want to hear about the content of the Grand Grimoire don't read.

Butler's statement is tied entirely to the anagram. That's interesting in itself. The rearrangement creates the name "flees from the light" from "light-bringer". The part for which demonology should be thankful is the content of the books itself. More than any other it discusses the ideas that any devil-hunter or worshipper would love. Ideas that by now are so well established as to border on cliché.

"Selling your soul to the devil"
"The layout of the contract"
The hierarchy of Hell.

It makes for the perfect portrayal of what the witch-hunters would be trying to fight against. In a way validating their efforts. The Grimoire is a witch-hunters wet dream because it gives examples of all the things they are looking for. If the original mansucript date of 1522 is considered (although probably inaccurate) the Catholic church at the time was torn on the issue of what it considered black magick, or even magick. A number of the grimoires are to be used to bind the devils or even see God more clearly.
The Notary Art, Arbatel de Magia Veterum could all be considered to not stray outside Christian morals. The Grand Grimoire is clearly "Satanic" in the eyes of the Church though.

So the grand grim entity, and lemegeton entity are two entirely different daemons? Quick off topic question as well, is the grand grim workable, or easy to use other methods with?

Non-workable grimoires don't tend to survive for thousands of years (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
As far as Focalor and Rofocle, well call them up and ask I guess..

I don't quite believe that Rofocale is an anagram of Facalor. First of all, an "e" is missing, and generally, I don't think it makes much sense.
As for Lucifuge, it was some years ago when I read that Venus was called Lucifer and Lucifuge.

Lucifer means the light bringer, and Venus, due to its orbit, was the first heavenly body that made it's appearance in the morning before the sunrise, and it was literally the light-bringer to the sky.
Lucifuge was the aspect of Venus which appears some time after the sunset, which is the considered as the first celestial body which takes away the light of the day (or smthing like that).

I'm not sure how accurate these are, but I believe it was worth mentioning it.

Yes, take the Name Rofocale, drop the e and rearrange for the Name Focalor. I recall, but I cannot recall from where, that the e is silent, so instead of row-fo-cah-lay the Name would be pronounced row-fow-cowl. Not that it means anything, but it could explain why dropping the e is okay - it has no sound. But I'll be damned if I can remember where I heard that. The final letter having no sound strikes a chord too (no pun intended), but again I don't know why.

But, drop all the vowels and you get RFCL.

Reverse that and you get LCFR. Add some vowels and you get LuCiFeR.

Light Bringer = Flies the Light?

Just random neurons firing... I need to try this with some other Names and see if anything else turns up. Feels like there's something there, but I'm not getting it this evening.

Best,
