From my perspective, the best way to "start with the Ouija," would be not to start at all. (IMG:

The Ouija board in particular is an extremely random, uncontrolled method of calling spirits, and you're not likely to have anything other than problems with it. I was using one for a few years. My experiences were at times interesting, but they were never what I'd call positive. It isn't a safe thing to do, especially if you haven't done much else before.
If you're wanting to get your feet wet, I'd start with the Qabbalistic Cross, and then when you've done that for a week or so, start doing the full Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. If you then want to look up and throw in some planetary invocations/banishings as well, that will start giving you noticeable benefits. Saturn is nearly always a good planet to banish, and invoking Jupiter can have some fun results, as well. (IMG:

After you've been doing the LBRP for maybe six months or so, you can maybe move into deliberately invoking/working with the archangels you will have already been calling with the LBRP. They won't hurt you, and they're a good group to have a working relationship with. They can confer a lot of developmental benefits, and help you out in a jam.
You also need to start meditating, if you haven't been doing that; you're not going to get far with spirit work in particular if you can't pick up what entities are trying to say to you. Moving closer to vegetarianism in the diet department will also help there, as well.
As for something with a slightly higher razzle dazzle factor, which as a newbie you're likely to want, check out Chaos Magick. You can start throwing sigils, calling/making servitors, and getting basic results pretty much straight away. This will help build your confidence that, yes, this magick schtick is real, and give you an incentive for doing the far less glamorous stuff that, truthfully, will likely make up the majority of your practice.
