I just did a cursory search of amazon and couldn't find much in the way of anything written on the art of magical oils. Of course there's cunningham's book incense oils and brews and I own it. However, it's not nearly the in depth look into the oils that I was hoping for, I would guess that there's probably some pretty good info out there but I just don't know what to type.

Magical oil has the potential to be one of the most effective, and powerful weapons in a magicians arsenal. Two important things they are capable of is helping to aid in a state of otherwordly conciousness as well as protection. Those are just two of the many uses that oils might be applied in.

In my experience I've only used oils to anoint candles and that has been good, but I would like to hear from anyone who uses oils or has thoughts on the uses of oils. Also, if someone knows of a book or website with such information please do post or send me a PM.

Greetings catsraven,

I do not know about Bb3, but I would be interested in hearing both takes.

Cosmic consciousness is devoid of diversity; yet the universe of diversity exists in notion....
We contemplate that reality in which everything exists, to which everything belongs,
from which everything has emerged, which is the cause of everything and which is everything....
The light of [this] self-knowledge alone illumines all experiences. It shines by its own light.
This inner light appears to be outside and to illumine external objects.

Greetings fatherjhon

It depends on what tradition your coming from. I use black pepper for many things. Some would say that I use it incorrectly. In what I have been taught it can be used for protection, cursing, heating up your love life, or heating up an argument. There other things but I think you get the point. This is just an example. I do use many other oils.

As for how to use them, you can put them on candles, put them in your laundry, on your self, on other people, on other peoples things. It depends on what you are trying to do.

Oils are so versatile! I use them in simmering pots, depending on the purity, and what form they are in, I have
made incense with them, use them in all my rites and rituals, wear them, use them on dryer sheets both for
laundry, or cotton balls in my drawers. I combine oils for different purposes, as lead, as well.

There are two sources that MAY help you with understanding uses, Whispered Prayers site, and
Capricorn's Lair. (just put the www. in front and .com after without any spaces or symbols)

Ive had good luck with both places, but like anything on the net, its hit and miss. Those two places
have provided unique and sometimes rare ouds and attars that you can't find anywhere else.

hope that helps!

Try the LuckyMojo site--it has lots of information on magical oils, their history & use.

There is Cunningham's excellent Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs book--I like that one better than the Incense, Oils and Brews book (which I also have)

There is a book titled The Enchanted Formulary by Lady Rhea and another (don't recall the title) by Lady Rhea on magical candles that also include oils.

Anna Riva and Charmaine Dey have books on magical oils.

You can go to e-Bay and type in the search "candles oils", "formulary", "hoodoo" and even "perfumery" under BOOKS and you will find all kinds of titles. If the seller does not provide enough information, then look the titles you find interesting up on Amazon or on the Internet. I particularly like researching books on Amazon because it has reviewers comments that are VERY helpful--usually.

Also, remember to spell it "magic," "magick," "magical," and "magickal" etc. because occult books spell it either way.

I have a lot of books and miscellaneous paraphernalia on the subject but we just moved and most of my books are still packed. Also packed are some occult books I recently purchased but have not had time to read yet. I hope the above is at least a good start for you.

I have two Anna Riva oils. They are REALLY potent. I have to be careful though,
as I get tempted to walk into the grey and dark side using her oils. There are definitely
oodles to choose from.

Blessings!

hey, thanks for the information people, feel free to tell everyone some of your favorite most potent oil combinations to use if you so desire. I've been out of the loop for awhile but soon i'll have some free time and definitely check out the recommended sites.

I wholeheartedly believe that oils can have as much mind altering affect as any drug that exists, they are potent, natural and relatively safe. Definitely all magicians should investigate

Dragon's blood is my catch all oil, and I use in ALL my ceremonies and rites.
other favorites are (and I have incense of most of them too)

Sandlewood
Carnation
Patchouli
Four elemental oils + spirit oil from whispered prayers website (they are great!)
St. High John
Civet Oil (real, very rare to find these days-I do not support the killing of animals to
obtain it, and my source doesnt get it that way either)
Nutmeg
Cinnimon
Musk
Ambergrise (synthetic, but you wouldnt know it by smelling it)
Cedarwood
Lavender
Neroli (the real stuff, not synthetic)

i have alot more, but those are off the top of my head, the ones I use
the most I also have mixed blends and ones for specific purposes,
like lodestone oil, and ancestral wisdom oil.

All of them have been very effective when I have used them.
