1) Yes. Whether you wish to do so in any particular instance should be determined by context. In my experience, the minimum time for manifestation of my desire has been 4-5 hours, the maximum 3 months. In general, the "bigger" the thing you want, the longer you can expect it to take, and the easiest thing to change is always yourself. How long can you afford to wait for your result?
2) Austin Osman Spare's "The Book of Pleasure" contains everything you need to know. If you want to read further I would recommend Dr William Wallace's "Austin Osman Spare: The Artist's Books". I would avoid any other work on the subject, which is superfluous, until you are fully conversant with this material. Of course, assuming you are in the UK then the other thing to do would be to attend my full talk on Spare next time I give it somewhere! (IMG:

Unfortunately I have no plans for this at the moment. I need to put in some time to formalise the structure and work on the handouts (there should probably be less). As I discovered on the first outing, there is so much ground to cover that I need to make sure everything is ordered as efficiently as possible to get through the most important material in a reasonable amount of time and not fry people's brains in the process! Since it seems that our local "occult" scene is made up largely of folks that want pop-wicca and candle-magic there isn't the impetus for me to cancel a weekend in order to do the necessary desk work right now. Might do it again some time around the beginning of next year though, probably in Manchester or maybe Birmingham.
3) Obsession. Desire, obsession and death are the key features of this type of work. Ideally, you want to create physical conditions that will force you to stop looking at the sigil at a particular point, and continue to look at it as long as possible as these conditions take effect. That is a simplification, but is probably sufficient if you are just staring at a sigil. If you are doing more involved Sparean style work there are further considerations and things to be guarded against.
The only other thing to ask is that once you did it, you did banish the entire operation from consciousness, right?
