Concentration is the most important aspect to any spell. Find techniques that ring true for you so they will aid in your belief that your family will be protected. nyecna suggested reading psalms from the bible and that can be added to the ritual below for anyone who is comfortable.
This is a ritual to protect loved ones. You will need candles. Pick a color that reminds you of strength. If you need help visualising the person, have a picture of them nearby. Of if this is an entire family, have a family portrait to look at. But it is even better if you can get everyone to focus on protection rather than just relying on yourself.
I helped a hispanic family who had been cursed by a Mexican Shaman so they would pay him to remove it. We stood in a cirlce holding hands and did the below meditation without the salt and candles.. If your family is comfortable with prayer or magick, perform this with whoever can be there. Even those who are away, you can ask them to take time to do this visualization. This is really not religion specific and each person can customize it as you'll see.
Find a stable table and light your candles. Set the bowl of salt next to them.
Centering
Centering is a term used for a light meditation in which you focus your attention on a single spot in your solar plexus (just below your rib-cage, above your stomach). This allows you to calm yourself and relax, and facilitates the correct flow of energy within your body. Gently down and back up.
Step 1. Take one or more deep breaths.
Step 2. Focus your attention on your solar plexus. Clear your mind of all other distractions. If something enters your mind, acknowledge it and let it go. Do not allow yourself to focus on it further. Take deep breaths and listen to your breathing. Keep your attention focused on your solar plexus.
Step 3. Feel your energy slow down; allow your muscles to relax.
Do this for as long as it takes for you to be calm and relaxed. If this is done correctly, you will feel a slight tingling or warm sensation where your attention is focused, and you will feel balanced, relaxed and confident.
Flowing Meditation
Take a comfortable standing position. Knees slightly bent. Back straight but not stiff. Take deep breaths. Feeling the air move through your mouth, into your lungs and out.
Relax your neck. Move your arms, hands, and head. Slowly. Gently to relax the muscles. Lift your legs a few times if you wish.
Star at the dancing flames of the candles. Get close if you wish and feel the warmth.
Close your eyes. Lower your arms to your sides.
Imagine a golden light above you. It flows downward touching your head. The warm light seeps into you. You feel strong and protected. The light caresses your face as it flows down, over your neck, shoulders. Into your arms and down to your fingers. Your fingers tingle.
The energy flows down your chest.
As the energy flows be mindful of any points were it seems to stick or you have trouble visualizing. These could be energy blocks. Don’t worry. Keep imaging and move on to the next point.
The energy passes your hips, into your legs. It relaxes your knees and flows into your feet, warming your toes.
Remember to breathe deeply.
Your legs extend as the light flows into the earth. In the earth is a pool of radiant blue energy
You flow into the pool of energy, feeling warm and strong.
The blue energy of the pool moves up through your feet, into your legs, past your knees, past your thighs, flowing over your hips, energizing your torso.
It flows through your arms, up your neck and spills out the top of your head like a radiant fountain of blue and gold, falling, flowing back into the earth.
Breathe deeply. Let the air fill you.
The golden light from above now flows along your back, down the back of your legs, into the earth ... it swirls with the radiant pool ... the golden blue energy travels up the front of your body and spills out the top of your head.
This energy is never ending. It is eternal, always around you. Take as much as you need but keep it flowing. Allow it to spill out so it won’t pool in a chakra making you dizzy.
Pick up the bowl of salt.
As you move the energy around you like a sphere sprinkle the salt around you or the entire group if others are with you. Think of it as a flexible sphere that can't be pierced. Visualize one around each person being protected.
Know that you are powerful and call upon your strength and courage. Seek this courage and strength for your family. If you say it outloud, say it with confidence and determination.
Call on any Gods or guides you work with for protection. Open your heart and mind to their words.
Now there is a lot you can do with this energy. You can see it flowing around each person you wish to protect. Think of it as a flexible sphere that can't be pierced.
When you are confident, and that's the key, when you KNOW that they are protected. Offer thanks to any Gods or guides you asked to participate.
Grounding
Grounding is a technique which helps to relieve a person of excess magickal energy which could cause them to feel edgy or nervous, much like drinking too much caffeine. Because it causes the energy to flow out of us we must be cautious and learn to recognize when to stop. This is often done just before centering and at the beginning and end of meditation sessions, energy work, and magickal workings or rituals, as it helps us to remove from ourselves not only excess energy, but also the energy that is built up during the course of mundane life which has attached to it the negativity and worries we all experience day to day. It is important to remove this negativity in order to be balanced during magickal work.
Step 1. Take a deep breath.
Step 2. Allow yourself to relax as much as possible.
Step 3a. Visualize the excess energy within and around you turning into a liquid and flowing like thick smoke or fog downward, through your body, and exiting through your feet to be absorbed into the earth.
Step 3b. It sometimes helps to touch the ground with your fingers and instead of draining the energy through your feet, move it up your body, down your arm, and out through the connection between your fingers and the ground, once again to be absorbed into the earth.
Step 4. Stop draining energy when you are calm and feel relaxed, but “normal”.
Step 5. Shake your feet and hands slightly to return their energy to normal and end your connection to the ground. Light stretching of the fingers, toes, arms and legs is also recommended.
