Yo, Kinjo!

I have a suggestion:

Is there any way you could get a module hooked up here to the forum that would enable us to have a "live" chat room?

I am thinking of something that would be uber simple - a point and click affair, where members logged in (and only full members, not guests) could point and click on a link that would teleport us into an IRC style set up that would enable us to rub mental hindquarters together about various topics live-like. Perhaps such a module could even be linked somehow to a sub-quandrant of the IRC - but I mean without having to get an IRC client, find a server, register a nickname through their services, and all that hassle.

What do you think?
Can you do it?

Would anyone else like to be able to linguistically chew the semantic fat with fellow magickal homies through a simple set up like that?

I suspect it would be neat. Especially if convo was kept magick-focused. Such a scenario could even allow a unique venue for various teachers among us to hold periodic classes, question and answer situations, etc... that seem to me as if they would work much better than attempting to do this via forum style posting.

(P.S. I seem to recall a thread along the lines of this suggestion happening once about a year ago. I could not find the thread, so I decided to start this new one regarding it. If you know where the right place for this post and want to move it there, by all means do so.)

We did have a chat room but not enough people are using it Praxis. That old thread was here: IRC http://www.sacred-magick.org/index.php?sho...1&st=&p=&#entry

A chat on the forum (Password protected, ofcourse) would be nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Besides just the enjoyment of discussion, classes through chat ( With overviews in the classes forums for those who missed it ) would be much better. The password can be changed with each class so that people who shouldn't be discussing a type of magic, or technique that's more suitable for adults (Underage members come to mind), wont spy in, and can be changed back to a general discussion password afterwards..With someone who can take 10 minutes to give out class passwords, and change 'em back, it could be a good thing. But I know jack **** about chatrooms, so I'll keep shut now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

Kinjo, was the chat room that we once had easily accessible here through a java module? Or did getting there require downloading, installing, configuring, etc... one of the IRC chat clients?

I ask because I remember once trying to get on the IRC through one of those clients, and the process was a bit of a pain in the nether regions. Perhaps if there was an easier "point and click" processes for directly getting there and into a chat room from here then more people would explore using it.

It was. No software downloading and it was quite easy to use. I even once put it on the forum menu, but no one was there to use it.

Umm just one minor tid bit I noticed; The member counter on the bottom of the main screen claims "we have 1 registered members". Probably just one extra detail from this up grade but thought I'd make sure others were aware of it.
