I'm considering getting the sigil of the archangel Gabriel tattooed on my person. I read in a previous thread that doing this w/o the proper knowledge of the entity in question can result in bad things happening. I do not practice magic/magick in any way. For some reason I'm drawn to this symbol. The sigil/seal or whatever it is in question is my current avatar. Am I playing with fire here or would this be a blessing being this is a positive entity. I'm rather new to all this so please speak your mind.

P.S. Any links to any symbols related to the archangel Gabriel will be welcome.

Where did you get that sigil from? As far as im concerned that looks nothing like the Gabriel sigil im familiar with.

Hello angelicseeker.

I have toyed with a sigil tattoo for about five or six years now. Like you, I have seen slightly different versions of the sigil of my spirit of choice, so I have not had it done yet because I am not positive which version is absolute. Also, what if I want to enlist the aid of some other spirit sometime?---and I have so-and-so permanently inked on me?--would there be issues or am I seeing this only on the human level and relating how humans react?--are spirits above all that?

I have taken the "design" I call it so I don't have prejudice right off the bat, to some artists and the biggest issue, since I wanted it on my forearm, was that it would be hard to do because it was small and there are little curlicues and such. I am not sure but I think the artist was just funny about it, as another said she would have no problem. I realize that tats can blur with age, so maybe the one who said she could do it was not being right by me and will do whatever someone wants as long as they pay--too bad for me 20 years later and a blurry sigil.

Anyway, those are my thoughts and experiences on the subject.

^ I second that.

Also, there's the concern that if the energies don't mesh well with yours you'll have to get the tattoo removed. Likewise if you switch to another patron spirit for any reason. Having a sigil permanently tattooed on you is a bad idea, IMO, simply because if you ever have to banish those energies represented by the tattooed sigil you'll probably find it difficult if not impossible as they are now literally a part of you.

Better to create a sigil in metal, stone, or polymer clay and work with it that way. That way it's still something outside of you, and proper banishings can be done if the situation requires it.

Alexodeus,

I believe thats the seal from the grimoire of armadel. It's a nice seal, and the other three archangels of the cardinal points are similar looking. If you've seen Nero's signature, you'll notice that those are the four seals.

I wouldn't recommend getting a spirit seal on your body in you are not a practitioner, and even if you are, you may find that your preferences change over the years. Only consider it seriously if you are on VERY good terms with the spirit, and even ask it what the drawbacks could be, and the advantages as well.

For the most part I would only recommend it if you have some sort of pact or arrangement set up with the spirit, and even then I wouldn't do it. Good luck with that.
