Also, there's the concern that if the energies don't mesh well with yours you'll have to get the tattoo removed. Likewise if you switch to another patron spirit for any reason. Having a sigil permanently tattooed on you is a bad idea, IMO, simply because if you ever have to banish those energies represented by the tattooed sigil you'll probably find it difficult if not impossible as they are now literally a part of you.
Better to create a sigil in metal, stone, or polymer clay and work with it that way. That way it's still something outside of you, and proper banishings can be done if the situation requires it.
