thunder birds Options

i saw a video of a bird in the usa that has a wingspan of 18 ft it was filmed in 1978 ish and is used to eat people. the thunder bird is often used in totem poles.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that research had been done concerning birds of that size and they found that the bird could only fly in the high winds of a storm. However they couldn't get past the "well what do they do for food when its not storming?" question.

They are very sacred by the Native Americans. A friend of mine is a medicine man and often talks about these creatures. He associates them with the thunder beings which are part of the haoka (I'm positive I didn't spell that right but it's how it sounds.) The Haoka he says are a type of people who have certain qualities about them. He states that there are four different branches of haoka. I'm not really able to precisely remember them so bear with me. There's the ones that have a habit of doing things backwards such as wearing sweaters in summer or preforming tasks a "backwards" way (I'm not sure what this branch is called.) The Trickster ones associated with the coyote. People who have a habit of tricking people into doing something out of the norm for them in order to help them. The wise ones, the ones who seek greater knowledge in order to help themselves and others. And the last is the whirlwind, which is a mixture of all of them. I often find these people to be more inclined to practice magick and so forth. I don't know much on this and actually I've forgotten a bit about it since I haven't seen him in a while so forgive the lacking in my descriptions.

Haoko Yes I know what you mean. I call them 'contraries'. It is a tribal society in which they do everything backwards in the plains indians. I think that they feel that they gain power by doing this. And we also have legends about thunderbirds here abouts within our local natives.
