Yule Season Greetings to all,
I would like to know from some of you who have used both of these; can you tell me the diffences you've experienced with each ones effectiveness and power, and do they both accomplish the same results ?

I've only used The SIRP & SBRP..because I didn't have all the consecrated tools for OBWT.
I read that the OBWT was created to replace the SIRP-the OBWT seems more difficult to me, but perhaps thats just because I haven't used and or memorized all the parts as with it..
Thanks again for your assistance

Hi,I'mgoing to add to this as I see a few folks read but it hasn't stired any opinons as of yet lol. It would be safe to say I think in GD style work. most use opening by watchtower. When I started on this path a few years back I learned from the books exclusively. The first thing I got to after becoming well aqainted with the LBRP , BR Hexagram middlepillar, circulation of body of light ect was the Supreme Invoking ritual of the Pentagram as my first "opening"ritual.
I had a dedicated daggar-it couldn't be truely consecrated without a Rainbow wand: and my general magick wand along with my chalice and proper GD earth pentacle i constructed and printed Enochian watchtower tablets. didn't have all my elemental conscrated weapons completed so figured I could do the SIRP with what I had.
I had great successthe first time out with this and have used it since. AS I've been following the GD path pretty rigidly my elemental weapons are only being made as I advance in knowledge(grades) albiet unofficial.
from what I've been reading its not advisable to do the Oppening by watchtower without the "proper" consecrated tools.
Technically you might be able to say this about the SIRP one might think.
Now I know in Craigs book-Modern Magick, and Konstantinos-Summoning Spirits they say to just go ahead and start "practising" the Opening By Watchtower with what you have, or temporary "stand-ins.

Ok now to my question that started this: IS there really a difference between these two opening rituals that would make one superior to the other. I know I will get opinions as to which particular people perfer, But since I've never use TOBW, I invite this to see what different peoples experiences may bewith these. AS I stated I've had very good results with the SIRP and it seems easier to remember to me.

PS don't have my Rainbow wand finished yet, and only half my traditional GD tools .
The chalice and wand(not my Fire Wand) would be closer to a witches , but they seem to work fine so far.
I have a dagger I've dedicated also but it's far from a GD blade. I figured Its an Important part of the work to make your own tools so wouldn't consider bying
DO YOU NEED the properly contructed & consecrated GD style tools to do TOBW effectively?
Thanks I figued I would add detailsto this to "Kick start" it as it were..thanks for any input

The watchtower ritual and the SIRP look similar in appearance but they are not the same. The SIRP is an elemental invocation utilizing enochian energies to invoke or banish all five elements in harmony. This ritual can invoke enormous amounts of energy and daily use before you are ready can lead to burn out. If this occurs just take a few days off from it and use the Lesser or Greater version instead. If the problem still persists then spend some time invoking earth sandwiched between a standard banishing.

The opening by watchtower is a true temple opening. It may look like an elaborate elemental invocation but it is not, rather you are invoking the four worlds, Atziluth down to Assiah. Generally it is not used daily but reserved for more serious magical workings.

If you are trying to follow a golden dawn type outline generally you would spend a period of time isolating and invoking each element in turn. My recommendation is to use the greater pentagram ritual for this, before crowning it with spirit by using the supreme version. Technically the Supreme Pentagram ritual is an adept ritual due to the enochian but most modern golden dawn orders now utilized it to good use in the portal grade.

Once you have mastered the supreme pentagram ritual and ready to progress towards adept hood, Regardie recommended constant use of the middle pillar ritual and regular use of the opening by watchtower ritual as a sort of self initiation progression. It is no substitution for an actual order but if you are following a solo path then there is worst advice you could follow.

On the tools, the traditional GD tools are really only needed for the more subtle golden dawn work. For a standard opening by watchtower the cruder elemental forms are fine. The tablets themselves are needed without question, but try use a candle flame, cup of water, paper fan, and plate of salt and you will find the results are true. By dagger I assume you mean a black handled banishing dagger. Do not use a dagger in this ritual or any ritual of invocation really. You need a wand. It does not have to be elaborate, a simple wooden dowel will suffice or even a straight stick, just find a wand and save the dagger for the LBRP.

Greetings Frater Fio, Sorry I haven't responded in such a long while: Thanks you very much for this important advice.I knew there was a reason I was getting a "don't proceed" with the watchtower ritual at this point. You are dead on as the times I have performed the SPIRP with my wand the energy was intense indeed and kept me wired for a few days. I actually had to pipe down for a while as it was almost as if I had too much energy and not a specific place to direct it.
the standard invoking ritual of the pentas I have used with some good results..but sometimes when I invoke one element in all directions I seems to get a bit off balance.I will do the earth invocation as you've sugested when this happens.
I want to try making some talismans as I haven't done this yet: I supose the supreme could be used for this..but would the watchtower be better for this?
what you were saying about an order on this path is true as I feel like I can only go so far following the GD path without feeling like I am getting in "over my head". I have a good aptitude for this kind of work but as a solo practitioner it is difficult to say the least. The sad part is the closest temple I know of is in Chicago, and the of course I have to start at the beginning again. I know the Hermetic OGD * the Esoteric OGD are at odds to some extent both claiming they're "the real deal" I hate politics and such things...too bad it wasn't like a church were you could just drop in and check it out ha ha..I'm sure thats comming but a long way off hmm magickal study groups?? where I live it seems there sure aren't many like minded people I can plug into..thank the gods for the internet..and again thank you for you help and guidance..

In Love & LVX Levitas
