Im practicing lucid dreaming and OBE at the moment but I like to smoke weed.
and I have quit just for OBE training. I get to stressed and I hurt people around me.
so I had to start smoking again. my nerves can not take it,
so Im wondering. since I dont dream when I smoke pot.
is there some way I can have both. I have a herb called celia zacatachi. that stops deep rem levels of sleep and Ive mixed it with the pot and I still dont recall dreaming.
does anyone have any ideas?

I'd REALLY suggest getting off the pot.

Magick is focused intention. If you're high on pot, it affects your thinking ... which will affect your focusing intention/spellworking.

Not only that, but doing drugs tends to invite some not-so-nice entities into your magickal circle (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (Pot lowers whatever psychic barriers you may have erected.)

If you're under stress and hurting others, maybe you should seek some professional help (Have you tried meditating? That should settle your nerves some.)

I've been using this Blue moon cycle to have some fairly decent "dream-astral-remote view type things". It just seems to pop my counsciousness right out in the stratospere. I have never used the dream herb, yet heard it works well.
...If you cannot dream on weed and would like to ...then by all means stop and go go.
remember this too shall pass.

Yeah, can't speak for others but weed really messes up my practice. Both my rituals and my dreams are just shattered by the stuff at times I don't even feel comfortable smokng the stuff after a ritual, it just makes my head spin and I can feel terrible. Depending on the grade of the stuff you are smoking it can deteriortate your mind completely. I'm Jamaican, we have a group of people (rastas) who specialise in smoking the stuff, people look down on them and think they're lazy but they're like connisuiors (sp) and use it PROPERLY and always have a lot to say regarding its use. Things such as eacting properly, NOT smoking the female plant skunk as its too potent and is hazardous, being mentally stable if deciding to take to smoking it on the regular Ie; Not smoking it to escape goings on around you and so on.

Q-U-I-T

Its not (supposed to be) addictive, more habitual and if you can't quit for a good few months then you're either running away from a problem or have a habitual habit you need to seriously shake off. The stuff kills your dreams completely. If you have problems stopping, cut down by smoking lesser grades, diffrent strains of weed, then hash and stop from there.

Really have to be intune if you want to keep smoking it and working as you do.

For me, weed doesn't seem to negatively affect me at all. I find it easier to concentrate when I smoke and my visualization skills improve immensely. Honestly it affects everyone differently and if you want to keep smoking then there's no reason you can't also work on OBE and astral travel. My most vivid experiences in the astral occur when I smoke beforehand. Admittedly at first the weed would dull my senses and I'd kind of just pass out into 'dreamless' sleep but, after really working on meditating and coming to understand how smoking affects my thinking, I've learned to use the calmness and the positive feelings that smoking provides in my meditations, rituals, astral travel, etc.

People have differing opinions when it comes to drugs and magick. It's important that you make your own mind up about the issue and just work from there. If you don't think you can stop smoking then maybe you aren't supposed to quit or don't have to. Just try smoking and meditating at first, then work your way up to astral travel/dream workings etc.

The most important I can recommend doing if you aren't going to quit (or even if you do) is to meditate. The more you meditate, the more you learn about yourself, grow in power, find an inner peace, etc and all of this makes for easier astral travel.

So you are psychologically dependent on marijuana? Have you considered trying to do something about it? Like getting personal help for it? No ill judgement on my part but if the problem is weed then why not change it. If you do not want to change it, then you're accepting that you're going to have difficulty working with dreams and astral travel. Weed does affect people differently. One of the common affects I have heard of is that when people start smoking weed occassionally that it boost their psychic abilities and intensifies dreams and such. But when people smoke regularly it actually degrades psychic potential - at least that seems to be the case for you. Again, weed affects people differently. Even when I used to smoke weed by the grip I still had wild dreams and such.

Marijuana significantly reduces testosterone levels. Testosterone, among many other functions, can also affect mood. People who have high testosterone tend to learn more towards the type "A" personallity (the real go getters). People with lower testosterone tend to learn more toward the type "B" personality (the more relaxed and mellow types). So the weed, by reducing your testosterone levels, is altering your personality - literally and I'm not joking. When you smoke weed you feel that calm mellow side. But without it, you feel overwhelmed, stressed, agitated, irritable even violent. Its a real psychological addiction one that most people need help to over come.

But you don't sound like you are interested in quiting either. And hey to each their own! But don't be in denial over your addiction.

You still dream its just the weed alters your brain waves while you sleep such that it is hard to remember them - weed impairs memory and dreams and memory kinda go hand in hand.

I do believe that you can smoke weed and have lucid dreams and all that other stuff (I did it for years). I would suggest that you at least reduce the amount you smoke or at least only smoke at certain times.

Beyond that I think you should check out my thread:
http://www.sacred-magick.org/index.php?showtopic=5431

I have attempted to try and help people to learn various ways to increase the number of lucid dreams they have. I think you should really be using a dream journal and try hard to remember what you dream. When you go to bed tell yourself "I will remember my dreams in the morning". Even if you don't try to write something down (other than "I didn't dream last night"). And this takes real practice. So don't expect results immediately. It may even take 2 weeks or longer before you can remember your dreams in any detail. But once you are that point experiment with some of the techniques I mentioned in that thread I posted. And remember sometimes its just all about attitude. If you set yourself up for failure you cannot hope to succeed. So don't be an "I can't" thinker, at least when it comes to lucid dreams.

I've had a bit of experience with this, and I have a lot of friends in a similar situation.
Personally I find smoking pot affects my dream recall, but having trained my dreaming
memory it doesn't affect me as much as it did. Generally I'd suggest you quit
if you are really interested in dreaming. If it comes to choosing one or the other,
you want to give dreaming a chance (..all we are saying..) and have a fuller experience
of it through lucid training etc., so you at least know which one you truly prefer.

The other day I was thinking out loud to a friend that maybe pot brings one's dreaming
attention energy into physical reality using it up, but on the other hand it's a definite
shift that makes it hard to remember things and so the conscious mind is sluggish
in it's memory which is really important during dreaming and projection experiences.

Here's a post on my blog regarding the topic with some suggested herbs that may
help counteract it a little, including a link to a more in-depth article:
http://ilovelucid.com/questions-answered/what-are-the-effects-of-thc-on-lucid-dreamers/

But if you want to quit pot try smoking Damiana regularly instead, it gives you a
blissful feeling if you keep smoking it and actually helps dreaming too..
