Hello all, Recently I made a post elsewhere about making your own runes. Drawing up your own designs with their own definitions that I gave them, that is not only fun and exiting to do but makes your runes more personal to you. I've seen my readings come out much better since I've done this and the things I mark with the runes are more special and have better significance to me. I wanted to reshare this due to the lack of responces I had gotten elsewhere about this subject to see if anyone else has done any experimental things with divination tools and wanted to share them here.

That does sound fun! Kudos on that!

I myself haven't made a custom system of divination, but I just might do that now. It will take some pondering, but if the mind gets bored enough, miracles happen. Thanks for the inspiration!

Something I saw a few years back for an art show back home, was a group of Artists got together and made a costom set of Tarot cards. They only did the major arcana though, they all were beautifully done but only in the name of art. It would be a true labor of love but it would be wonderful to see a deck made by someone who had passion for it with artistic skills. My idea was to photograph landscapes in different areas giving them different definitions and altering them on my computer... It would just be too cool.

I just LOVE the runes ... I have a deep respect for them ... they are my first choice divination aid ...

I agree with you about drawing up your own designs .... I have extensive markings on my palms so I had the inspiration to make my own glyphs from the markings on my hands!!!

I call them Underworld Glyphs .....

Information via any type of glyph or rune is awesome ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wizard.gif)

Must look into Runes.

Doing divination my own way has always been my thing, I took one look at the layouts in Tarot and tried one or two and wasn't impressed, now I feel for the right cards to pick out from lines or clusters of cards and wait to 'hear' how many to take.

Works well.

I agree about the tarot ... suggested layouts and meanings hardly interest me .... I have developed my own layouts and most of my meanings come from personal insights and personal memories .... I find the tarot to be far more accurate this way .... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

i was hoping to find something interesting and here we have it. i am in the process of developing my own numerological method, as well as the alpha chart to go with it. I have never found the traditional alphabetical interpretations to be quite right. As i said though it is a work in progress.

Hm.

I often do what I call "omen seeking," which is just a very undisciplined form of divination. I simply look at whatever's around for possible symbolic meanings.

Something related to tarot: for some reason, I often find playing cards on the sidewalk. When I do, I translate them into tarot (clubs=wands, hearts=cups, diamonds=pentacles, spades=swords) and interpret them. It's not exactly reliable
(I can't just go out and look for a card when I want a reading,) but it's sometimes helpful and always fun.

And, of course, there's always coin-flipping.

I sometimes practice driromancy (my standard is tarot, if anything at all). The word driromancy is an old fake; it probably wasn't practiced at all but found its way into obscure dictionaries some how. Basically, you cut yourself and allow the blood to drip and these drops are symbolically interpreted (like reading tea leaves, except with fresh blood instead of tea). The act of will involved in cutting is enough to focus the mind and the irrationality of the act (self-harm) does lots to distinguish it as an 'out of the ordinary' process.

Pricking the finger normally does the trick. So far as general divination goes, having a connection with the tools is all that matters (for those who work with them). My own thoughts connect blood very strongly with Life and Will (both personal and the driving 'will of the species'). It is a clear, representational way of asking for an answer.

Some people can read cow guts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rofl_2.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/haha.gif)

I do fine driromancy to be quite reliable. But that's not what I'm going to talk about. I have recently invented a system of divination called the Situational. It's used not to tell the future, but instead to tell you where you stand in a given situation. There are one hundred possible results, anything from "broken alter" to "obsidian". To get the results, you roll a percentile dice, which would be two ten sided die to get a number between 1 and 100. I find it quite accurate, but that may be just because I am the maker. I'll try to post it, but I currently have it in an odd font with different symbols.

divination is not really my thing yet i own a pendulum as well as a tarot deck. i really don't have anything with devination, but it is nice to play around with at times when being stuck.

with the pendulum it is easy yes or no answered questions that you ask. such as "is my gf pregnant". luckily that was a no at that time heheh

with tarot i read the symbols and give my own interpertation of the cards. the type of lay i use depends each time. one time i do the celtic knot, other time i take 3 cards, other time only 1, the next i just lay them in a way i want them to be without being a previous practiced lay. I just think of the kind of the amount of cards i need and where i'll position them and what they are supposed to tell when put down in that spot. the rest happens without my intervention. so far i've never been wrong.

a friend of mine wanted an african styled tarot deck, seeing there are none she could find it came to mind to make her own deck. i wonder what she did with that idea, should ask next time i see her.

somehow people still think that devinations are to fortell the future. however this is a wrong and inaccurate description of what it is. it is supposed to give you new insights and a glimpse into a possible future.

I agree with you Sagazel; people always want me to tell them what will happen but there are only possibilities.

I know some people like to use set layouts that they see in books for Tarot, but I prefer to just put the cards on the table however they will fit in layers or rows and go from there and choosing each card by just being drawn to it.

People seem pleased with my random way, so I suppose its as good as any other.

as long as you're clear about the question and your intentions it becomes very hard to go the wrong way.

the future is like a fork in the road that goes of in many directions. each direction is a different future. you choose which road to resume your journey on by making choices in life. tarot and many other divination techniques allow you to take a glimpse into the road of your choice in order to see what it is like before actually entering that road.

this makes foretelling the future a difficult task. long term foretelling is near impossible due to the many choices and variables. you can see the big redline in someones life though. You can look into the near future, but is it ethical? especially when it talks about events that can cause harm...would you tell someone and intervene with their future or not?

in the end it's very interesting to experiment and find your own way and gain your own experiences
