Hiya

What does it mean when you hear birds singing in the middle of the night. Five or six birds singing the same song? I was awake so it wasn't a dream ...

Or what does your lover adopting the head of a hawk when you are both on the job and you have climaxed?

Birds singing in the middle of the night, depending on what they are, can fortell of great fortune. If they are normal song birds, like wild canaries, finchs, even chicadees, it's all groovy. Parrots (which I doubt), and vultures fortell of strife and pain. Sometimes even death.

And crows or ravens are not death, but knowledge gained...

I am from India which is a land of superstitions. Here which bird ( or indeed any other creature ) makes what kind of sound at what point of time & at what kind of location has got symbolism attached to it. India is a land of portends, premonitions, forebodings et cetera which are linked even to inanimate objects & happenings. Various symbolisms are there for climaxes & anti-climaxes. Westerners will be simply flabbergasted to see all this. It is to be seen to be believed.

Durki illustrates an interesting fact, that superstitions change from country to country and region to region. So the question 'what does x symbolise' may have a lot of very different answers. From a Zen perspective the sound of birds singing at night is just the sound of birds singing at night, it is perfect in and of itself. There is no need to then add 'what does this mean'.

That's true, yes. But I gave universal examples for the symbolism behind the birds. Not ones constricted to one part of the world or religion.

durki gave a half answer to a specific question. Hinduism does have it's superstitions and beliefs, we all know that. But in which regards to birds in particular?

DollHouseKitty, superstitions in India are too many to recount. For example, when you go out of your home in morning and see a bird perched on your right side then it is considered auspicious. Raucous call of a crow symbolizes some important message or happening concerning your near & dear ones. Shrill cry of a certain bird symbolizes impending death in your habitation and so on & so forth.

Greetings

The sound of a number of birds singing in the dead of night usually heralds good news for whoever hears them .... especially if the person is experiencing a difficult time.

It is usually a portend of good news ....

Holy crap! That's what she was looking for! I DIRECT answer about Birds, NOT how you may be superstitious.

P.S. For further clarity, leave me alone with your emails, durki.

Interesting ... thanks. The latter part could have applied until recently.

No ritual. I looked up and across at him; light from outside caught his face and it was like he was wearing a hawk mask. He was not even aware.

The messenger bit kind of makes sense ... I think ... ta

Bird symbolism is a vague science. Attaching too much importance to superstitious interpretations based on the sounds made by birds may be misguiding & misleading.

Durki ... I think you contradict yourself.

I am happy with the suggestion by Mr Merlin thanks.

You insist in previous replies that you are surrounded by superstition and their interpretations then you come up with:-

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused012.gif) It amuses me?? Men! Were you the only member to suggest something what would I make of you??? Take heed of your interpretation then when another member gives a viable suuggestion you make a statement to virtually say disregard what anyone says ....

Prophet Ezra, I do not want to see the taint of Sexism drifting in to the posts on these forums.

Durki has pointed out that there are a LOT of different interpretations of the sound of birds singing. You seem to like the fluffy one that Mr Merlin pushed your way, so be it. Durki has shown that one person can point to a nice interpretation, someone else can point to a nasty one. You take the one you want, but should be aware that it is not an exact science and putting to much store in such superstitions could lead you to trouble.

Interesting ....

I took note of the interpretation which felt right. My intuition spoke to me it was the right choice.

Anyway ... I got the letter today. This morning actually! My selfish .... b**ta** of an ex is no longer my husband!!! After refusing and holding me up and stealing everything which was mine ... and getting his high flying lawyer chums to pick on innocent me ... he finally gave in ....

So thanks MM for the portend of good news!!!! The bad news bit didn't compute with me as it is all I have had.

He is out of my life!!!!!

No more dark sun glasses ... no more aching kidneys after being kicked their ... no more...... no more bite marks ...

Prophet_Ezra, I am naive. This is not the correct forum to post this. But you have been cheated by your husband. So now, why not get wedded to Sacred-Magick Forum so as to completely identify yourself with SMF and devote all your energies for enrichment & embellishment of our forum.
I am extremely sorry if I have been intransigent & misadventurous and digressed myself so as to transgress my limits.

Good luck in the path ahead.
As a rule I am a non violent person, but domestic violence pushes my non violence to the limits... there is NO EXCUSE that can ever be used to defend such a person that hits another! You are obviously better off out of that situation.

Read your blog post. Buddhism is a difficult path and I wish you well with it. If you do wish to follow that path then at some time you will need to let go of the anger you feel, but this will take time and hard work and meditation. I can tell you that for me my life changed when I let go of the anger, it is the first step into a bigger and better world (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You probably realise that use of magick (white, grey or black) is not really compatable with a serious following of the buddhist path, you are just replacing one set of attachments with another (your old Catholic attachments with new Pagan attachments).

You may find the audio dharma talks at http://www.dharmapunx.com/htm/mp3.htm of interest.

Be well.

Prophet Ezra, after reading your blog and making sense intuitively what might be going on with regard to the Hawk 'manifestation' ... I wonder perhaps if this relates to some kind of 'message of assurance' or the like you may have to give to your boyfriend ...

It could be some kind of visual indication by your own consciousness that you need to let him know that perhaps 'all is not well' ...

Forgive my intrusion ...

I doubt it ... there is little in the way of a 'message of assurance' as you call it.

The hawk mask was justa fleeting thing; maybe a trick of the light but nothing more I think.

Gone through all the search places on the net for an explanation but come to the concluson that it was a trick of the light.
