Hi,
I'm fifteen years old but have been studying the occult for a while now, and am quite confused about something (sorry, possibly being naive but i'm sure you've all been there!!! Possibly things never become clear!?!?!?). Have not done any rituals or magic yet apart from basic auric and meditation exercises but am making sure I read a lot first...
Well, so far as i can make out it seems as though the Abramelin ritual centres almost exclusively around faith and trust in the lord. Is this Christian faith? Surely it must be as it stems from Solomon...
Anyway, I would not consider myself a 'Christian', or any religion with conviction at the moment. Possibly 'deist' in its loosest term would be most apt. Does this mean that I could never achieve contact with my HGA: At least using the ritual laid down by Abramelin? Naturally 'switching religion' would only be a superficial thing, and would not change anything spiritually, and is also warned against, probably for that reason. Sorry, once again, I may seem totally stupid....
Crowley managed to achieve someting along the lines of his HGA, did he not? But he was definately not Christian!!!!! From everything else i've read it seems that Magickal power comes from energy, not faith (though one could argue that faith is a path to energy i'm sure), but the Abramelin seems to be crucially centred around the 'Lord' and faith...
Thanks if anyone can give me any help...

First - strip away all the “religious” surface language of the Abramelin ritual.
Then - consider the meaning that remains, guswhist.

When I do that, I get the following: the Mage performs a working that results with contacting, and communicating with, the center of that which the Mage is.

According to my perspective, one does not have to be “religious” – and in connection with that, one does not have to be Christian – to attain results from contacting and communicating with one’s center.

With regard to what magick is: to me, instead of coming from energy, magick is how one uses energy.

Thanks very much, that helps.
I get hung up on the facade of the writing but I see that it really is a voyage to find ones-self.
I agree that magick in all forms is just a manipulation of energy, from the obvious Wiccan relations to the less obvious....
Thank you...

There are different paradigms or working models to explain how magic works. I think that the usual ones are the Spirit Model, the Energy Model, the Psychological Model, the Informational model and the Meta-Model. They all explain things in some instances and less well in others. Generally we might use one model in one kind of instance and another in another use. I think that the Spirit, Energy , and Psychological models are easy to figure out by their names. The informational Model is newer and hard to explain. You might call it cybermagic, but it is used for information transfer and healing. The Meta Model is essentially the blending of these previous models.
In any case, magic can be something in which you call on the gods/God or it can be hmm.... separate from religion and spirituality. In wicca we might talk about it being using craft skills. They have specific terms for these two kinds of magic in any case, deity related and craft related, but I can't recall them at this moment. Its my day off and my head isn't working properly. But the answers are out there with a bit of research.

Don't worry. It'll only seem kinky the first time.
