Historically speaking there are many ways of performing candle divination and even more ways of interpreting the results from those visionary excursions.

What is presented here are the methods that don't need a lot extra components, that are easy to learn, and that usually don't require hours and hours of free time to achieve some level of success.

This is the most traditional and common form of a candle divination.
Set up a candle in an area where it will be at a comfortable eye level in a sturdy, safe containter (no need to set the house on fire!). Make yourself comfortable - it's hard to scry if your feel cramped or awkward.

Next, whisper your question to the candle and light it. Sit down and loosen up your muscles. Close your eyes for a minute. Leave everything other than you, the candle and the question out of the mental space you are presently occupying.

When you feel centered, look toward the candle, but not directly at it. Let your eyesight blur a bit, and take deep, even breaths. Now simply observe what the candle does while you're thinking of your question. Here is a list of potential interpretative values for your consideration.

* Active, bright burning: A positive 'yes' answer.

* Blazing suddenly: Something unexpected headed your way.

* Blue flame (predominant color): A lack of energy impedes progress. This can also indicate the presence of a ghost.

* Candle won't light: A hugh stop sign. Something's wrong and you need to rethink things before proceeding.

* Faint burning: This indicates similar faint-heartedness regarding this question. You are obiviously uncertain and it might be best to hold off on this decision or action until other matters reconcile themselves.

* Flickering: A lack of energy to support this decision or action.
Build yourself up, then act. Otherwise you won't get the results you hope for.

* Halo: Be cautious. Trouble is on the way.

* Long-burning, bright flame: Good fortune
* Movement in the flame: Things are changing and transorming. If the flame moves predominantly to the left, the changes may not be good.

* Orange flame (predominant color): Warm feelings and pleasurable times
* Red Flame (predominant color): Don't let anger and emotions rule your actions
* Rings in the flame: Good news, Happiness.

* Smoldering: Trouble is brewing, Hold on tight.

* Split Flame: two equally appealing options make themselves known.

* Three-tip flame: Take the middle road, where you can find balance.

* Wax dripping: On the left side a negative sign, on the right a positive one. In a spiral it indicates the presence of a spirit who may have a message for you.

* Yellow flame (predominant color): Get creative and communicate!
