Dowsing, Divining water, metals & other things Options

I am naive in this field but I have seen some diviners dowsing to a breath-taking accuracy. For example, there are persons who would dowse on a map with a pendulum and the pendulum would vibrate at the exact spot-point below which water or the treasure is there and they will tell at what exact depth the desired thing can be found.

Is there supposed to be a question to this? Or is it just a statement?

I was once part of a woodland maintenance team, and once we had to fell a windblown tree which had lodged itself into a neighbouring tree.
This presented a hazard to people in the vicinity, and so had to be felled.
There was another problem, in that the area where it would land, had a large water pipe below the surface of the field, and to ascertain the exact location of the pipe, we tried dowsing with two bent rods which crossed at a certain point when we walked across the area.
After digging down at this point, we found the pipe, and took measures to avoid breaking it.
Unfortunately, all my subsequent attempts to find lost objects, and leaky pipes have failed, but I am still convinced that it works, just that I'm not very good at it.
If anyone can give any hints or tips as to how this technique can be developed, I would be greatly interested.

You are safe as far as spellbegging in my opinion.

You are just encouraging discussion on a previous topic. Although at this point the thread might be too old to ressurect. Spell begging is usually totally obvious and along the lines of "I want to make this person fall in love with me, tell me what to do."

I would also like to see the idea of dowsing discussed. What to others think of it. Is it an unexplained science? More mystical in nature?

In some areas where water is difficult to be found even large-scale hydology companies will sometimes bring in a dowser. And at times they can be startingly effective. Any thoughts on how it is done?

the easiest way to learn it is to check it out - more than one person's energy will help, so will focusing and concentration - you had fear before and that is good energy source and a purpose for high concentration - have someone bury something off good size, or bury it yourself,fix it up so you can't tell where it was buried (loose dirt will give it away) and the next day try to find it again with the rods or pendalum (necklace with crystal or some such)

Hi, and thanks for the replies, and the methods of testing the effectiveness.
I'm not sure if your question was rhetorical in some way Esoterica, but I didn't think of anything in particular when I tried it.
The first time when it worked, I was just intrigued and obtained the desired result.
The subsequent times I tried, I wanted a specific thing, like finding the underfloor source of a leaky pipe, and a boomerang lost in some grass (Yes, my boomerang wouldn't come back, ....still haven't found it).
Maybe there is a certain amount of bliss in ignorance. As soon as I thought I'd cracked it and did it for a specific purpose it stopped working for me, and sent me on a merry old chase. I must have looked a sight walking round a field waving two bits of wire about, seething with frustration.
I reckon some Fairies must have nicked it for a laugh, as the grass was quite short, and I saw exactly where it fell and kept my eyes on the spot, but when I got there, it had vanished.
I kept going back for days after, and even got some friends involved.
I was the butt of many a boomerang joke after that.
Ah well, I suppose that's probably my purpose in life. To bring mirth and joy into the lives of others.

There's a new topic to ponder on : Which clever individual invented the boomerang anyway. And how the hell did they manage it?

You don't realy have to perform any sort of prearranged ritual or plan. Just close your mind to everything and focus attention on the divining. I suppose you could equate this action with scrying.

One thing about dowsing....it either will work for you or it won't. There are different forms of dowsing which get variable results in the hands of the dowser. Using a forked stick will work for some and not others, the same being true for the use of pendulums or coathanger wire...
Another note of interest...water witching/dowsing commanded a chapter in the USA Army Field Guide for WW I ! It is one of the more publically honored/respected divining systems in the world today. As I've said earlier, it usually boils down to whether you can or can't divine. It's likened unto a genetic trait., like being able to 'rolling' your tongue! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
