in runescape (the grandkids were playing it - eek! i'm old!) there was this bit about chanting up cut and faceted gemstones (as in sapphire, emerald, diamond) and could even be set into jewelry - anybody ever see a reference to this outside of runescape? - i have a nice dragon horde of gems (some faceted some not) - and this was supposed to be my new years resolution, that is, to find out something about it, but i'm not getting anywhere - and how would they be used, as focusing tools or as scrying objects or charged for use later, or could one be carved or marked with a sigil, and what are the associations - the same as colors or would it be more alchemical

have at it and i'll see you guys tomorrow am - this is the day for the meeting about the meeting about the conference call and it will probably take all day (don't you love work? and can you believe you actually get PAID for doing this crap?)

Greetings!

Gem chanting I'm not sure exists as a discipline, its more like one of those things you can just do. Certainly you can use a gem as meditive focus (like a yantra). I don't know if that's close to what you're asking or not.

Gems have a variety of uses (I have a collection of semi and precious stones). If you properly maintain them they can be effective by just laying them out in the right spot. If you delve into gem magick you'll find each one has an idea of the traits they are supposed to inspire. Many of them have a mythological history (like haematite).

As for scrying, that's an in depth subject that I'm not too knowledgeable on, so I won't try to explain it, save for saying that there's probably a thread somewhere here that can help.

It is possible (and practical) to store energy into a gemform or other metal or mineral for later use in a working or just when you need an energy boost (say, in the middle of a boring meeting!). I'm not so sure on the engraving. It may be costly, and I don't know if you want to mark on the gems with a marker of any kind.

If the gems are small enough (or the containter large enough), you can make elixers and tinctures.

From what I understand you can use a high proof alcohol as well. Done correctly the water "memorizes" the traits of the gem and you can drink it in small doses, or leave a pitcher in the fridge. I've heard pure spring water from a river or brooke is good to use, or rainwater if you live in a part of the world where it isn't so soiled by pollution.

Anyway, if you're interested I could explain that a bit more. Hope you got something from all that rambling. :)

Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an Eidolon, named NIGHT,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule-
From a wild clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of SPACE- out of TIME.

cool - thanks - break out the vodka!

i also like the idea of the power boost during meetings, but i really like the idea of charging them magickally or sigil-ly for an instant invocation/evocation.
