Hi to everyone!
In this period I'm writing down something on the Elements...some questions that I'm still trying to answer:

1) In ancient philosophy the ligthest element was the Fire; today it is the Air. When and why this switch did occour?

2) What were the elements in the vision of the Golden Down?

Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

elements do not really have weight, perhaps earth.

They are archetypes, they represent pure undisolved elemental energy. They do not have physical counterparts.
earth is the only element with the quality of wheight. And air exells in the quality of non-weight. The other two have nothing to do with wheight.

Of course they are not something that you can phisically touch....i was talking about the aristotelic vision of the Elements...

I don't mean for this to sound rude, but, why does it matter? If it was originally fire, and it changed to air, than it doesn't so like it's all that important. Again, I don't mean to sound rude.

i see.

Then i believe i was talking more in the form of the golden dawn. Not that i am that versed in their teachings. But i do believe they saw the elements as archetypes.

Somewhere among my archives, I probably have an answer to your question; but I bet you don't want to wait weeks for me to find it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/13.gif)

I thought this link was quite interesting, I am not trying to confuse you, but just to show that each system has placements that works for it.

http://occult-advances.org/elements.shtml

Having said that, in one of the very first rituals I did, I place two of the elements in the 'wrong' place and had an angel or some entity come along and swap them over. What I would dearly love to remember is where I got the original ritual from and then I also might understand the placings and reasons for them.

These are the Golden Dawn attributions (a short list):

Fire: Heat, dryness, excessive lightness, brilliance, excessive subtlety,
motion rapid.

Water: Cold, moisture, weight, obscurity, solidity, motion.

Air : Heat, moisture, lightness, slight obscurity, subtlety, excessive motion.

Earth Cold, dryness, excessive weight, excessive obscurity, excessive solidity, rest.

The rankings for weight are Fire:Air:Water:Earth

This is the same as the attributions you have given. As for the attribution of air being lightest I don't know what you are referring to. It should be kept in mind as stated before that these are not elements in the periodic sense. I think this is where you are getting confused. Please list where air is attributed to the lightest element.
