This may sound like whining, but isn't the amount of subforums excessive in proportion to the amount of posts? Isn't it true that "less is more", esp. if it provides simplicity and a "flatter" structure?

The main reason I stopped coming to SMF a while ago was that there were soo many forums and life's too short to go clicking around them in order to find something of interest. Why does every kind of "entity" need its own subforum?

Greetings Calyx!
Criticism can be a double edged sword. As a Mod I find that the SubForums are just easier to review.
We WANT people to spend more time on the Forum though I'm sure that you can control yourself from our devious manipulations! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) We try to have the Entity Forums structured so to eliminate some gray area crossover.
The advertising clients at the bottom of the screen help pay the bills...How much are you willing to pay to make them go away? Let's try and focus on the good things offered here as opposed to the things that are really trivial. I look forward to seeing some of your posts on Forum. Welcome back! I think the subforums are great. A quick click on Today's active topics gives one everything they need in any case.

The ads at the bottom are one of the best features in my mind.
Seriously if you are have a bad day click on one or two, the "college of witchcraft" or "school of magick" ones pop up and those are some of the funniest sites I have ever seen.

That and we could never have some of the great features like pm's and blogs for 1000 users for free.

the view new posts link works very well if you have it in favorites

but then all you get a list of threads and you can't check out the links without clicking on them

i want the hover thingy (from that other forum) that shows you the first post in a alt/baloon box

however, the last post link is superb and all forums should be made to use it too

and find a way to make the pages load faster (i'm on dsl and its the slowest forum i go to)

and while you're at it, find a way to be able to eat cookies without weight gain (mmm...so good!)

Every feature that has been asked for is available, including reducing the number of subforums. Everything you guys have asked for can be done by learning how to use the boards. That's why the new board is awesome. You have lots of options.

Everything you want is there if you learn how to use it. Faster loading, new posts view, fewer subforums! It's all there, this way everyone can set things up how they prefer instead of trying to please everyone. Poke around and learn.

one thing i just learned - to prevent hack problem the 'other' forum removed the delete_post, delete_thread and delete_forum functions and extended the editable time - hopefully you want need it, but you may want to remember what they were just in case so i put it here

Well I think this matter is decided considering the vote was 89% yes. As there is no closing date on the poll, I feel that two weeks was more than enough time for people to express there opinion. For now I am going to close this thread and we will consider the matter decided. Topic
