I must admit that I'm somewhat surprised that new grimoires that expand with further explanations, rituals, philosophy, cosmology, mythos, etc... - have not been published by those who use the Necronomicon.

Does someone retain the copyright, trademark, and explanations associated with the word Necronomicon that presents legal hurdles for doing so?

I have two responses to your question my friend.

1. No, there is no copyright on the name "Necronomicon" because the name is simply a latin translation of "The book of Dead Names". The Simon Necronomicon is not copyrighted because it claims to be a manuscript over 100s of years old...and therefore to old for copyright laws to be placed on it (of course its not, but that doesnt matter much, only that it claims to be)

2. Frater Nero and I are currently writing a book that is both a "how to" guide to the Simon Necronomicon and an expansion to it.

There are currently three books published about the Simon Necronomicon (not including the spellbook written by Simon) though only one is available as the others were only published for a VERY short time and are sold out at EVERY online retailer.

Ashnook - I hope that you and Nero will inform us when your book is finished and ready to be purchased. After several years of quietly observing various conversations regarding the paradigm revealed through the Necronomicon, I must admit that I haven't encountered anyone else who has approached it with the combination of respect, clarity, and the demonstrated desire both to practice and to teach it as I've noticed from reading your, and Nero's, posts here.

I also hope that with your combined abilities and experience working with this system, the two of you will bring forth more information - in the form of philosophical explanations, mythological elaborations and expansions, in addition to practical exercises for working with this system.

I have those hopes because (if you will forgive me for making this crude parallel), I remember when very minimal sources were available to provide such information for the Enochian paradigm. A few brave individuals knuckled down and provided more - the highest quality of which did not come from parroting what notorious groups previously offered - but which came, instead, from devoted practitioners who knew of where they spoke from both scholarship and experience.

I've only read Simon's Necronomicon. I never took the step to practice according to it, because further information (of the kind I mentioned earlier) from practicing Mages (I am uncertain if that is the correct term for referencing practioners. Perhaps it the right term is Cleric or Priest?) was unavailable.

I suspect that more in-depth examinations would be very welcome to many.

Oh, I can assure you there has been published books like that. I have just forgotten the names of the writers and the books. Like, there was this extensive guide to the necro written by this guy... oh, I am forgetful.

I know that Donald Tyson wrote about it recently and an amazon search shows about 30 books. Personally I didn't find Tyson's book that interesting but some people have said they enjoyed it. Anything I have read usually related to a broad based idea of the necronomicon rather than the specific simon version.

I went to amazon.com and checked out the 28 books listed there. Simon's works aside, there were some of Geiger's artbooks, a couple of books exploring the history about the Necronomicon popularity, a couple of books exploring cinematic usages of the Necronomicon, and a couple of books that seemed to be presenting their texts as if they were the "original" Necronomicon.

There were two listed there that seem as if they are somewhat what I've been talking about are Tyson's Necronomicon and Hine's Pseudonomicon - but even then, I have reservations about Tyson being more of an opportunist than a practitioner, and I haven't read Hine's.

I still think that it would be cool to read some grimoires written by serious practitioners - who aren't just attempting to cash in, explore the history about the Necronomicon, talk about the movies, or pretend that their version is the "original".

Thanks for the suggestion to check that list out, chaoscrowley37.

Praxis, also look for Liber Koth by Stephen Sennit, its great. I also believe there is a pdf called DE VERMIS MISTERIIS in the library section (I honestly dont really like this text that much, but it is interesting). Also look for a text called Yog-Sothoth in the library here and at http://www.chaosmatrix.org/library/books/necro_proj/ which is a great resorce. Also anything from ChaosMatrix is pretty good. Hope this helps.

Actually Ashnook and I are in the process of composing just such a book you speak of. A general guide to using the simon book. Included will be a little bit of sumer magick, some hermetic magick, and a lot of trial and error on our part. We are still very early in the writting phase but maybe one day we will publish it.

The book is written to prove the Necronomicon is a fake but in the end just proves it has power and it is what the writers fear. Now Daniel Harms and John Wisdom Gonce III have ego's bigger than planet earth and will respond to you as a fool for using the Necronomicon. What is odd if Simon's Necronomicon is fake and has no power then what do they fear. They have a curse in the end of the book warning you if you attack them I will put it here for all to see.
A GEAS IS PLACED ON ALL WHO READ THIS
This book will cause a great displeasure to purveyors of the occult"disinformation."
While all are free to criticize it verbally, no one may attack the authors of the book, psychically, astrally,or magickally.Should you seek to attack the authors of this book, their mates, famlilies, friends, agents, heirs, pets , or property by telepathic poisoning, foul thought forms, ensouled elementals, sending demons and Qlippothic entites, psychic or astral vampirism, or by any other means whatsoever, fierce modes of defense shall return all entities and energies back to you, the senders , multiplied sevenfold, there to wreak whatever vengeance is karmically just. If you persist thereafter in your attacks, the foul things you seek to control will devour you so that the horror of your destruction will become the stuff of legend , a tale frighten children in the night, and a proverb for generations yet unborn.
CAVEAT MALFACTORES
ISTHAR LAMASSU UMANISHU
DIVA VULT DEUS VULT

The Silent Dragon wiped out Arafat with magick I don't see much with these two. War with them would be like a Sunday walk in the park. Remember the Necronomicon has no power if they say it enough to themselves they will still get blasted
So Be It!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/butcher.gif)

Sacred-texts has an interesting version of necronomicon.
I was thinking of a few adepts of our group who may have some interesting alt. texts they may wish to add to this library as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If you want to check out what they have it is at;

http://www.sacred-texts.com/nec/necro.htm

93 "Holding the vibration of the original connected oneness in source (Agape) is the law of connection, by holding the vibration of the original connected oneness in source we embody the unconditioned will." (or, "Love is the law, love under will."

I found the Necronomicon Spellbook online but it seems incomplete. I can't find any of the sigils, I can't find the parts of the book dealing with The Watcher, the circles, and all that good stuff. Is this in the "Necronomicon", or was it supposed to be in the Spellbook? Does anyone know if I can find the "Necronomicon" by Simon online?

The Necronomicon Spellbook is only the Book Of Fifty Names, One chapter fron the Necronomicon with a strange mix of candle magick evocation and prayer, it can be effective but dangerous as it tells of no protection and there should be almost nothing but sigils in that book. I would recomend finging the Necronomicon, not the spell book for that is what you seek if you want to learn the systm. There are many places to find the Simon Necronomicon for free online, If you cant find one PM me.

Thanks for the explanation- now I don't have to buy both books! I downloaded a PDF of the Necronomicon and so far think it's awesome, except I can't begin to contemplate the idea of Cthulhu and the Ancient Ones taking over the earth. Thank the "Elder Gods" this is somewhat "fiction".

Of course, that is what it mainly is. Our thoughts and our theories but all of them tested to see just what works and what doesn't.

With the Nec and with any grimorie work you should keep a not only a journal but a hand written copy of the book as well. My copy has all the spells and methods that I have found to work as well as my orginal work based upon the system. Added bonus you get any spirits that you work with to swear upon their sigils in the book and you can forget the spell book method. More like just dialing them up when you want.

Thank you so much for the advice Nero, I am very grateful to have kind people like you on the forums to assist newbies like myself. I will buy a blank journal and begin writing some of the information form the Necronomicon within it. Do they have to be spells that I have used or would it be possible to write most of them down, also must the testimony of the mad Arab be included? I might also want to leave out the Urilia text due to the nature of it. I am just wondering if having the book in its entirety is important.

P.S. I am Baldric on OF and I believe we have discussed the Necronomicon there, or at least I read advice written by you, just thought I would add that.

I happen to own Donald Tyson's version of the Nec - and in all reality, I believe it is VERY different from the Simon Necronomicon. Can anyone else here verify this?

Yes it is completely different.

The Simon book borrows it's name from Lovecraft and there are a few hints of lovecraft throughout the book but it is mainly a hodge podge of sumerian magick and parts that has been added from sources unknown. More than likely created.

The Tyson book is different. It is complely Lovecraft. He has written a nice story that included the cuthulu mythos and has created sigils from them. I am unsure if it is workable, some say it is, although I know some choas guys who can make a system from a video game. Regardless explore it if you want to but I wouldn't mix them.

IMHO I am not a big fan of Tyson's Necronomicon.

Neither am I really - It was the only one I could find. IMO, it's a good 'read" but it gives no hints at hwo to evok the spirits, or how to even summon the Watcher - Even though i don't plan to USE it, i will later on in my career - I'll end up with a Simon Nec.

With that in Mind, does the Simon Nec. Gice anything aboout the "Spirit bottles"?

Peace.
