Good Day,

For a week or so I have been wondering around the internet. I've used Google and such in order to try and find something. Which I obviously couldn't find in a way which satisfied me.

First item is a "Wheel of the Year". Sort of a calender or anything similar to it which can be bought and put on a wall. There are many images on the net, but almost no place which sells them on some cloth like fabric. If anyone knows an adress which does international shipments it would be much appreciated. For the record, even though they are very similar, I would prefer a Pagan/Celtic Wheel of the year. Anything Wicca is not interesting to me. Simply because I don't follow the path of one and I'm very picky with what I want or don't want hehe.

The other item I'm looking for is a book. Lately I've been going more indepth into working with Sigils. In many books about rituals and summoning there are sigils presented to work with. BUT...I would like to learn more about sigils themselves. How are they made? How do you give a certain meaning and working to one? Such like information about sigils specific. Seeing I don't like reading texts from screens I'd prefer a book over a PDF file. If anyone has a few suggestions which books are most usefull for indepth information about Sigils and their mechanism it would be even more appreciated then the Wheel of Year (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I had no idea where to post it. Was thinking Flea Market and Book Reviews. So move it to where it belongs if it isn't here.

my own experience with what's available out there was so bad that i did my own - now i rely almost entirely on my own observations/experiences to set associations, and of course they change as the universal flow changes so associations from 50 or 100 years ago won't ring so true today just as we as a people are not what we were 50 or 100 years ago. BTW, if you do your own associations, you can see the effect of precession/planetary infuence over time - neat!

for a true celtic calendar try (you can always tell if its right beacuse there are no such thing as 'celtic runes' only ogham and they did it by trees, not months): http://www.celticgrounds.com/chapters/c-calendar.htm

(IMG:http://www.celticgrounds.com/images/scanned/celticartthings/grphs_illustr/wheel_mt.gif)

as for getting a pre-printed or manufactured item, i wouldn't have one if it was given to me - time to break out the old right brain and create something special by the work of your own hands (and thus infusing it magickally with intent as well as info - who knows what magickal intent you would get in an item from a occult shop besides 'spend all your money at our store')

as for sigils, back in the day (windows 95 had just come out) i created a few angelic ones - it was easy in paintbrush (only drawing program i had back then) - based simply on alphabet and graphing, then empowering via ritual with the entity in question (the sigil is merely the name of the entity encrypted plus planetary associations, etc., and means much more to the creator than it does to the entity - must have been a leftover practice like the 'tetragrammaton' principle - nowadays we'd use the real name - not afearing the use of it spoken aloud)

for the basic principle try: http://www.wisdomsdoor.com/wb/hwb-sigil.shtml

I understood that concept, but seeing how awfull I am with my hands...unless it involves knitting or sewing. And that for a guy rofl.

I've had an idea of what I'd like to see in the wheel and approached a friend who is also an artist. She's gonna make me what I had in mind. So it's gonna be ok and custom made. If I don't forget I'll post a foto of it end of January when it's done.

All that remains is a good book about Sigils (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Greetings,

When it comes to sigil creation there are two great books. The first is Donald Tyson's 'Familiar Spirits'. It deals mostly with the creation of egregores and such, but he goes into pretty good detail about the concept and creation sigils themselves.
The second is Crowley's 777. It's not about sigils specifically, but there is no book better when it comes to associations between different aspects.
Ex. If you wanted to created a sigil for a Venusian entity you only have to flip to the columns concerning say, 'Venus'. The colors, angels, times, days and such would be all given, making the desireable qaultiies alot easier to discern.
I got both at Barnes and Noble, so they're pretty easy to find. Hope they help.

Greetings!
Books on Sigils are many. AOSpare has any number of articles/books with the use of sigils, FraterUD also has a book about them. I've just randomly picked a couple of websites googled with the word "sigils". See these:

http://www.bewitchingways.com/wicca/sigil.htm

http://www.chaosmatrix.org/library/sseg.php

There are many Chaos Magic(k) texts out there that list sigils and their construction.
A number of our older membership have posted some very beautiful as well as functional sigils here on forum. Try the 'search' function...
ie: the world abounds with sigils...take some time to explore, research and read up on the sigil and its use in Magic. It's only an alphabet away... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wizard.gif)

Thank you for the information.

I've currently got a bid going on Frater UD's book about Practical Sigil Magic. A lot of sites sold it for 170-200 American Dollars. So I started looking and found it for 80 dollars. While looking also found a few nice grimmoires which came very cheap (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Balances it all out.

I don't plan to start using sigils in my way of doing things. However I'm very interested in studying all forms of magick and what comes with it. It is interesting to understand the mechanisms and uses of many techniques. If the book convinces me of the practical uses of sigils, in a way which is easier then current techniques I use, then I plan to make a plaque with the Hebrew alphabet.

A lot of things I have are selfmade, not by myself though. However everything is made for me and consecrated/cleansed by myself. It's so hard to keep my ego in check, because I want to show of my altar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/922.gif)

neat!

i like the symbolism, too

i just found out that if we lived below the equator, the cultural and seasonal designations, as in Beltaine and Samhain would be flipped 6 months - its hard to imagine a calendar based solely on travel around the sun, but it would probably look a lot like the mayan calendar that is used to get the date of 2012, which has no astronomical components such as planetary alignments and only carbon dating provides the beginning and thus the 2012 date.
