Soul shrinker? Tarot cards? What is the name of the deck you are using? QUOTE It is a little scary because the card means chaos, crulety and violent distruction. The card is called The Soul Shrinker. The tree is in a dog park near my house. It isn't only me who feels it myfriend and her mom felt it too. the energies are repulsive and yet they draw you to them. Any advice? Does the card have another name? Then I'm kinda confused. How did all this even come about? Were you messing with the cards and draw one that said it meant chaos cruelty ect ect or did you just hear about it? What happend to cause this delema in the first place? I don't entirely under your problem. If there is a tree that bothers you, avoid it. If this tree seems to correspond to a card then maybe it means something about you or your mom. But the cards are for personal understanding and really have no power except what you give them. If there is actually any "dark" energies its not really bad just an obstical in life that needs to be over came. But unless you're talking about some other deck there is no "soul shrinker". The first 20 some cards are reffered to as the Major Arcana. These cards have been used for centuries for divination by the Hebrew. Each card actually corresponds to a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I do believe, though I can not recite which ones, the cards also correspond to various trees, elements, seasons, stones and variety of other things. But there is no card in the major arcana that is called the "soul shrinker", that I'm a aware of at any rate. The next type of card is reffered to as the Minor Arcana. I think this portion of Tarot wasn't developed until much later, like the middle ages. It is actually a segment divided into four sections - stalves, penticals, swords and chalices. Each corresponds to an element - stalves are fire, penticals are earth, swords are air and chalices are watter. Each section of the minor arcana is made up of 9 (maybe 10, its been awhile since I worked with mine) cards -ace through 9 (or 10), a page, a knight a queen and a king. None of these cards are called the "soul shrinker" either. My adivce is to consider the card as a tool of personal understanding and that both you and your mother should consider what in your life might be chaotic, cruel and repulsive, yet drawing you in.

It's actually an Oracle deck-Faerie. This card was pulled in a number of readings. Then we went to a dog park, and we climbed this tree. We were on this tree and I had just gotten off to leave when it called to me. It is horrifying yet drawing at the same time.

So I finally did some digging to find out exactly what this soul shrinker card was. (IMG: http://www.spiritlight.nl/Pictures/Diversen/Afbeeldingen/BrianFroud/Soul.jpg) This is the soul shrinker. My problem with helping you out is that I kept thinking it was a tarot card and not a card in the faire oracle created by a guy called Brian Froud. So my interpretation of the soul shrinker, after looking into its meaning, is that "Soul" is a metaphor for self and "Shrinker" represents the challenge (the card is one of "the challengers" of the deck each represent different obsticles that can challenge us). Which makes me think the card means reducing one's self. Let me explain what I mean: Sometimes we get kinda full of ourselves and believe we are the center of the world, that everything revolves around us. The card is a challenge to let go of this selfish idea. When we believe we are the most important person in the world we neglect the emotions and importance of others in our lives. This can make us mis-treat those we really love or forget to show them that we really do care. Like the tarot cards, the faire oracle can be interpreted both right-side up and reversed. So if you drew the card reversed it can mean putting to much importance on others and not yourself. Thus by neglecting your own importance among your peers you shrink your self by making them more valuable to please. When we ignore our own self worth or are depressed often and don't really care about our own self - we mis-treat ourselves. The chaos violence and destruction the card implies comes as a result of these. Nothing more nothing less. In actuallity, its a very deep card to consider. And if you think about it the chaos and such makes sense. Some people who have this kind of "king baby" mentallity can cause a lot of mis-fortune to others. And if we don't love ourselves enough this can cause self destruction. The challenge of this card ultimately is to find a balance between equally caring for ourselves and those who are truely important to us. The challenge for YOU is to carefully consider how this interpretation fits with you. And if this card was not drawn by you personally than the person who the reading was for should consider how this all applies to them. On a side not now, the faire oracle is a bit different than the tarot. While both are used for mysticism and to "divine" information in us of us and around us the faire oracle is set up differently than the tarot. The Tarot is in two decks the major and minor arcanas. Only the major arcana cards have individual names. The Faire oracle has 66 cards (this is including a 0 card) divided into several sections and each card has its own name. First starting with the 0 card or "the guide", then you have "the singers" and then "the sidhe" (Ss-eye-th, I think), following this group is "the guides and guardians", then we have the "help-line troupe", and finally we get to "The Challengers" (which the "soul shrinker" belongs to. Each section can be interpreted as a part of both human nature and human experience. Then each individual card has its own unique name and aspect corresponding to the section in which it belongs. Its actually an interesting deck I think I'll be checking it out myself! Hope this helped! This post has been edited by + Kinjo -: Jun 23 2006, 05:12 AM

QUOTE(double witches @ Jun 21 2006, 10:09 PM) Self, huh? I never thought of it as harm caused by the self. It seemed external, something that attempted to harm you mentally or emotionally. Or just Chaos and destruction. I have my own wonderful tarot deck, the Mythical Tarot, although I am considering getting another one. Also...this may have no connection, but lately I've been seeing in grey. As in, in my neighbourhood for about two-or even one-block of the park in each direction is pure grey. Everywhere else there's colour. And I keep thinking something bad is gonna happen. Opinions? (IMG: style_emoticons/default/00000047.gif) Its not as simple as the self. That encompasses a huge more information than what this card is about. It seems to me this card is one that reviels attitude. Depending on your interpretation when we have a selfish attitude (we're more special than anybody else) it does cause chaos and bad things because we act in a way that effects those around us negatively. Inversly we can do the same to ourselves. We can neglect our own self worth and dawn on a negative attitidue of low self esteem. This can cause people to behave poorly too. One might act out and not care about the feelings of others. Or they may seek comfort in trying to please everybody around them but themselves. As far as bad things comming your way I learned years ago to trust inuitition over not trusting it and blowing it off as superstition. More times than not, my instincts were right. Something bad did happen when I felt a certain feeling in my gut. If you feel that something bad is about to happen then consider what it might be and how you can stop it. But something else that you should think about - maybe something bad is already happening. Stress, disease, anxiety, depression, family complications, social problems, possibly a combination of things. Just rememer just because you feel something bad is about to happen doesn't mean it will. And if your vission gets worse you should consider seeing a doctor asap. What your seeing could be a sign that something is causing damage to your vission.

Like all oracles, meaning is open to the interpretation of the questionaire. You asked I told what I think. Soul is a refference to self. Shrinker is the challenge to the self. My opinion. When you draw the soul shrinker its not telling you about somebody else's soul. Its calling into question your soul. Your friend leaving I think is an exact example of what I am talking about: QUOTE(Acid09) Like the tarot cards, the faire oracle can be interpreted both right-side up and reversed. So if you drew the card reversed it can mean putting to much importance on others and not yourself. Thus by neglecting your own importance among your peers you shrink your self by making them more valuable to please. When we ignore our own self worth or are depressed often and don't really care about our own self - we mis-treat ourselves. Please note that this interpretation can be in many different degrees. I'm not saying you're miserable or dying. Just that you might be mindful of how you treat yourself as pose to how you treat others. QUOTE(double witches) I think I know what it is. My friend Jordan is moving-and he definitely isn't looking forward to it. His energies are gray, and he's immensely powerful. I'd consider how he departure makes you feel and what you are doing for yourself, positive or negative. QUOTE Actually, I've determined that he is a necromancer. Him leaving eradicates the threat I've felt since I discovered his existance, but is also pratty miserable. So it's his energies. Well you can think what you will. But it sounds like you're playing the blame game. Maybe consider what you are feeling and why you feel it and what you can do to improove it. Challange your view and think; do some crittical thinking here: What is it in your life that YOU do or somebody else does to you that makes you feel like something bad is going to happen. But if you think this friend of yours is negative on you then when he leaves you should be able to feel a difference. If nothing changes then you know the root of the problem is somewhere else. QUOTE I don't think Soul Shrinker is /ever/ selfishness. It seems like other people are draining you, whether you know it or not. Draining you mentally and spiritually. Possibly using you physically. Its hard to explain. What I mean is not selfishness in the sense of greed, it can be but it doesn't have to be. Its a card that is challenging the self to look at their lives and face something they may not want to or even know they are doing or going through even feeling. For example - behaving in a way that puts one's self above others - its an example not necessarily what you are doing. And inversely it can be something you are not doing that is causing you problems. Once again as an example - putting others over one's self. Which is actually very draining and very fitting, imo, with the card in question. QUOTE They could even be harming you and bullying you into believing you're smaller than anything. Only you can know this. But again get away from those who are doing this. If nothing changes then you know to look for some other source. This post has been edited by Acid09: Jun 23 2006, 02:28 PM
