National Occult Day Options

Everybody and their mom has a special day, why hasn't there been a specific day called upon to be national occultist day? Wouldn't it be great knowing that there was a day for all occultists to come together, whatever their vocation? A single day where the occult community could rally against the people of goodness and normallcy who are so obviously supsicious of any kind of esoteric knowledge.

all you need is a place to gather, some notice, and enough people...

most unofficial holidays are recognized eventually, if they get enough press.

There are lots of occult folk who get together at faires and stuff for the various sabbats and esbats... if I remember the holiday terms correctly, but probably mostly wiccan/celtic-types.

Mmm... sounds interesting, it really would be nice if occultists got their own day where everyone could get together. It'd be perfect for newer people to learn and the older practicioners to share their knowledge!

How about Halloween?

Halloween would be cool. But I'd vote for Walpurgisnacht.

Technically, Halloween is a Christian holiday... Once called "All Saint's Day" back in the 1800's in Ireland.

How about on a day after Crowley? Or another famous Magus? Any one of those would work...

Wow...I hear thousands of Christian purists rolling in their graves right now. Sadly, to be officially recognized as an annual holiday, there has to be a certain amount of people who want it, and it also has to get past congress.

Believe me, I have nothing against christians. It's just that majority of ones who talk the loudest are fundamentalists who are so darned determined to purge the world of all evil!!

Seriously...why not February 29? It wouldn't be annually, but the date would suit the occasion don't you think?

Thats a neat idea with the feb 29th... And your right about how it gets recognized. I doubt it will, since I don't know of anyone in congress that is into the occult.

Halloween is Samhaine. a Celtic festival. Like many other holidays, the Christians stole it.

I defnitely wasn't talking about making a new national holiday, though occultists might deem to take a sick day on such a day. Samhain is a good thought but there are plenty of other good days out there as well. What about the summer solstice or the winter solstice. I think also the potential for good of such a day would be outstanding, perhaps everybody could light a candle for unity and harmony for a couple of minutes. Such group efforts really have the potential for a great effect. So how would a day best be determined? What way would we get the general occult populace to accept such an idea? ads in LLewellyn and online?
