The Qabalistic Cross makes the magickian as the centre of his Universe.

The circle itself becomes sacred space.

The pentagrams are used to banish and clear the space.

The Archangels are brought in highlighting aspects of our own personality bringing us into balance and become a balanced god of our own circle and can command in strength from that position. There is also a balancing of the elements too. So you and your self as an earthly being are all in order magickally speaking.

In other words, the LBRP is a perfect starting point to any magickal working.

This is my opinion and what I understand it to mean. Others may have a different view.

Radiant Star's analysis of the function of this ritual in workings is exactly correct in my opinion. I would also add that there are a number of other benefits to the caster. First, continued use of this ritual strengthens the caster's body of light providing increased passive protection from external forces. Second, the ritual contains in a nutshell a working model of the relationship between the structural elements entailed in ceremonial magic. Continued usage of the ritual gives greater understanding of these relationships.

While the ritual is simple to perform, it provides continued rewards to both beginning practitioners and adepts.

Tarem,

In terms of preparing to do the ritual, all you need to do is locate the cardinal points within your ritual area so that you will know which direction to face while performing the various steps. No other preparation is necessary, although you can add other elements to your ritual space such as symbolic representations for the elements placed at the appropriate locations if you wish.

LIRP - lesser invoking ritual of the pentagram.

The LBRP is also a great way to train the beginning magickian in all the fundamentals of magick. It teaches how to work in a ritual space, visualization, channeling energy, vibrating godnames, ect. It's also a great quickie ritual to do for everyday stresses and problems. It tends to balance things out and protects you from negative influences.

Also it should also be mentioned that the pentagram ritual uses the star of 5 points where as the ritual of the hexagram uses six points and when used together back to back on a daily basis they act as a little invocation to your hga. As the degree 5:6 in the Golden Dawn(which is where these rituals origenate from) is the degree where communication of the hga first dawns.

But there are other forms of pentagram rituals out from different orders, like Arum Solis and N.(IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif).:A
