I've read two conflicting opinions on this matter. Some people say that after you perform your sigil magick you should banish the sigil and burn or otherwise destroy it. Others say that you should actually keep it in an apparent place where you will be constantly reminded of it. What's your method and why do you use it?

Depends on the effect, in my opinion. one shot sigils intended to cause a change and then go away should be destroyed. Sigils for enduring effects should be kept, but not in an apparent place, I think. If you look at it constantly, you're constantly thinking "did it work yet?" or "Is it working like I want?" thoughts of this nature prevent the magick from working freely with your subconscious. Ultimately the point is to get it all past your conscious mind and into your subconscious, so it seems like having it around would interfere with that process.

that's my take.

I tend to do the same thing, if I make a sigil that has a lasting effect to it, I put it somewhere that I forget about, so that it continues, yet for short-term ones, I burn them.

Ok. This is just an example. If you wanted, for instance, a money sigil to work you would activate it then destroy it. However, if you were creating a love sigil for instance you would keep it around. Is this sort of what you're getting at?

basically. The specifics will pertain to each individual effect of course - you can make a sigil for money intended to achieve a specific goal, or to help you understand and attract abundance over the course of your life, or a period of time. You might create a love sigil to bring a vital charge to one day, or to help you make the connection with someone - or you might create a sigil which is intended to bring more love into your life for a long time.

I guess it boils down to, "Do I want this to be an instant effect, or a long term change?"

it's all subjective anyway. Reason it out for yourself, decide how the mechanics may work with your own mind, test it and form a theory. When it comes to Chaos magick especially, your own opinion is all that really matters, though perspective can help form some more interesting opinions.

I keep mine. I will put them in a grimoire one day. Besides, I typically set an expiraton date on each one, so after that date, it's just a piece of paper.
