Gnome Familier:

Well I am unsure just how much I would like to share on this subject. I am usually very open with my work. More than I should be most times, but for some reason I feel the need to hold back this time. But I will share my outline but leave out some details.

When I wanted to contact a gnome I was unsure how to call one without first having a name or sigil handy. So I decided the only way was to just evoke Ghob and then ask him for a gnome familer.

I used a streamlined solomon setup with a triangle of the art. I used an earthy incense and on either side of the triangle I placed smooth stones and a small cup full of salt. Before the triangle I placed the golden dawn elemental disk and placed Ghobs sigil on top of this. All facing north.

I banished my space with the pentagram and hexagram rituals and then sat for awhile in prayer for protection and success. I then called in earth energy using a form of the SIRP and connected this to my aura using the elemental attunment ritual. After this I sat facing north and took my time in silence contemplating the earth symbols before me and feeling the earth energy around/in me and then slowly repeated the Prayer of the Gnomes from Levi. Once this was all completed I then turned my attention upon the sigil of Ghob. After some time was spent concentrating upon this I spoke the call, making sure to call him in the name and power of Adoni HaAretz and Adoni Melekh, along with the apropiate archangel and Kerbum.

After a few minitues and repeating the call a few times Ghob showed up in the triangle. He was a short, squat little man with no beard but a wrinkly face. He wore a brown high collor shirt and a shapeless bag for a hat. I greeted him and checked his identity. He said very little but upon my request for a gnome familer he gestured and a small gnome appeared.

(This is the part I am still wondering about. The gnome did not appear inside the triangle as Ghob had. Instead he appeared next to the stone I had put next to it.)

The gnome gave me his name and sigil and agreed to help me. I thanked them both and gave liscense to depart. Then banished.

A few words on gnomes:
Having one as a familiar is not as cool as you would think. I expected to learn a great deal from him and I have but not in the way you would expect. You have to remember that these entities may look human but they are not. Not even close. They are the pure element and that is all. A gnomes language skills are not the greatest. Most questions seem to confuse them. They are good to get things for you but this tends to be hit or miss because they tend to agree with anything you ask them even if they cannot do it. They are not lying to you because they don't seem to understand that concept. Also there are more than one type of gnome. At least their appears to be. Some look like little people and others look nothing like that. Closer to worms and lizards. I am sure their true form is not even close. The appearance as I have seen them might just indicate their jobs.
Finally a gnome has endless amounts of patience. Something we could all learn.

Interesting Nero, I have no astral senses yet and for the record (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I am curious on how do you see Ghob and how did you sensed it? Do you think if there is other people present with you with no astral senses can "see or feel" him too?

On the familiar:
How do you percieve and "talk" to your gnome familiar? Do you "store" them in a physical housing?

I'm not adept at CM in the least, but I have to say kudos for doing all that work. I am much to lazy for that, and I am in awe that you did all of that for a familiar. Hopefully, more uses for the familiar will become apparent over time, and I am sure something precious will be obtained if you give everything some time to develop. Good job, Nero!

QUOTE(| Kinjo @ Mar 25 2005, 05:47 AM)

I have tried to use the mirror but I have never gotten it to work properly. Mainly due to the fact I have not put the time into learning the skill to use one. The method I use is to close my eyes and I get a picture in my mind's eye. Actually how I tend to see spirits is in flashes of detail that only after the fact can I piece together and see the whole scene as one vision.

The gnome I have never gotten a clear view of. Mainly I "feel" his presence more than anything. Often times I will be almost asleep and he will appear on the bed and sort of "buzz" me to see if I need anything. Feeling the presence is much easier than seeing them in my opinion.

As I said he usually comes to me. He would disappear to his domain and do his work and would check in on me.

Greetings Nero! Ah......the language barrier. You really have to speak simply and directly. We tend to introduce alot of innuendo in our speech and they will not get it! A good scrying mirror made from coal, quartz, ie mineral substance will be great for seeing them, though you seem to have the mental sight worked out fine!
You're right in how they think, I've already expounded on that in another thread. Elementals, faeries, angels ,etc. are not human and do not think the same way we do. When dealing with elementals (and the others) try using mental images instead of or while using speech. It will vastly improve your communications. I'm very impressed with some of you Magicians out there...very inspirational to talk with people who's brains haven't calcified and are still somewhat plastic! Yes you are correct, when talking with spirits they seem to rarely use speech. They seem to prefer images and impressions. I have even gotten little movie type clips from them before. Speech seems to be their last resort.

I am not sure what you mean. Are you saying you are not a magician?

Well.......Labels are tough. I've had extensive training in magic, ceremonial and 'sorcerous' (in reference to the categories listed here) but also alchemy, hermetic science, divination, theurgy and shamanism. Jack of all trades (master of...well, a few). I've worked with a number of spiritist groups (including the spiritual church) and have worked, at one time, with Duke Univ., Rhine Institute with parapsychology. I meant no offense in my statement about the term 'you Magicians', I truly am enjoying the topics posted and think that one is never too old to learn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/5.gif)

No worries, I was in no way offended. I was only confused. The crowd I run in uses Magician as a general term for anyone who uses Magick. I was confused by why you would consider yourself one. But it is good for me to remember that everyone is different and keep my eyes and mind attuned to a different point of view. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wandwizard.gif)

Nero - how are activities with your earth elemental familiar these days?

Have you found your experiences with it rewarding enough to evoke and to obtain any other elemental familiars?

The gnome is no longer with me. I have released him since he served his purpose.

As to your second question it is a little harder to answear. The experence was like nothing I expected. He was not nearly as useful as I had imagined for the things I was hoping for but he was very useful for things I hadn't considered. He was unable to do alot of the practical things I had hoped for but I learned alot from him. So yes I would do it again.

Before the triangle I placed the golden dawn elemental disk and placed Ghobs sigil on top of this. All facing north.

Hi Nero,
How do i get the sigil of ghob.I know that some people do create sigils themselves.
you need a magick square for that usually, to tarce out the sigil.
but how do i get ghob's and other elemental kings' sigil.

I'd like to second that question/request for the sigil of Ghob. Likewise, the sigils/seals for the other 3 elemental rulers would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Nero will probably jump in here with an answer as it pertains to his thread-head . . .

You can find the traditional sigils of the Elemental Kings (et al) in many books on ceremonial magick. Or, you can take the Rose Cross, and play connect the dots using the name of the spirit. Done correctly, you should end up with the same traditional sigil you might find in many books on ceremonial magick.

THIS site has a basic introduction to this method. It ends with a note about the potential difference between sigil created through the English verses Herbew alphabets . . . this is to be considered when comparing your sigils to traditional ones.

So, did the sigil look like an upside down V? Looking at the RC (English version), the first line would originate from lower right and go to upper left and the second line would go down from there. Seems like a very simple symbol. Is this what you used, Nero? Or did I miss something?

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/Frater_Nero/ghob.jpg)

Summoning Spirits has the correctly generated sigil from the rose.

Most generated sigils are very simple. They are only intended to allow you to get your foot in the door so to speak. Once you have gotten contact ask for a new one as well as the best way to contact him in the future. As your relationship grows he may give you more.

Does the element related to myself (in astrology) work best? Or would it in some way be better to use the element associated with myself?
Great stuff here. i would love to here more with other elementals.

I am not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if it is easier to evoke spirits associated with the element that corresponds to your sun sign? Like Leo is fire etc?

If so I do not believe so but is possible I guess.

yes is it easier or better to have an familiar around that is assocated with our sun sign? Maybe easier to control? or easier to understand? like in this case you said it was hard to comprehend the gnome.

when you have a look at metatrons sigil
http://www.wisdomsdoor.com/wb/hwb-sigil.shtml
they leave out the e and a and t
it reads mtron
sinse it has that bend to signify two t's its mttron so its missing the e and a are you sappoused to leave them out or do you do it to clean up the sigil
what the hell. how am i supposed to work with the rose cross if everyone draws the sigil differently!

Alright, calm down DR
What your seeing is that the english word Metatron is transliterated from the hebrew (I don't have the font): Mem, Tau, Tau Resh, Nun.
Thats how its spelled in hebrew. (assuming no vowel pointing or other non-alphabetic poo)
Then the letters/word/name is:
either transliterated into english (MTTRN) and placed on an English Rose Cross (not preferred for originally Hebrew words, but is best for "English" origins)
or
the hebrew letters are placed on the Hebrew version of the Rose Cross (preferrable for natively Hebrew words)

Why "everyone draws the sigil differently" is beyond me . . . but there might be some minor differences if the same hebrew word/name is drawn either in its language context or if its transliterated to English (or any other language).

best practice . . . keep languages intact if possible. It doesn't matter how it looks (assuming your placements are correct)
